Nothing Rolex is scratching the itch!

I find myself in a predicament! I've gone through just about every Rolex model including vintage (no PM's) nothing is doing it for me anymore. I'm trying hard to stay loyal to the brand, but lately I've been looking for something different. Perhaps a larger watch, maybe titanium.....IWC, Panerai.....etc. I don't know if it's a phase or if I just need to take a Rolex break or what! Anyone else go through this "I need a break from Rolex" period? Maybe I just need to venture out just to see if I come back to Rolex.

Yup. Pretty much a necessary phase of Rolex ownership/being a watch guy.

I went through my "F Rolex" phase a couple of years ago.

I went through a phase like this but ultimately came back to Rolex. I'd avoid the mistake I made by branching out to Breitling or Panerai. If you want to try something new, I'd go with AP. A Royal Oak makes a great everyday reference.

This sounds very familiar to me as well and I second this advice. AP RO and PP Nautilus lines are a great place to go for a break from Rolex. I did this about 4 years ago but have now once again gotten the Rolex bug back.

I dont think its a phase. I think its time to venture out. Look into APs. Go to an AD try different models. Some will aurely scratch your itch.

Why?
What’s loyalty got to do with the purchase of a mere commodity?
Did you swear an oath to a monogamous relationship with or legally marry it?
What does Rolex owe you or reward you with for such allegiance?

As far as that goes your exactly right! Before buying outside of AD's I purchased several Rolex's from AD's and never received anything from Rolex. The one time I purchased a Panerai from the same AD, Panerai sent me a thank you card a really nice key chain.

I absolutely recognise this predicament. I spent a year wearing two APs (15400 and Diver) having been a Rolex man all my life. It wasn't really planned...it just happened that way. And during that year I even became slightly anti-Rolex.

The phase wore off and I came home to Rolex....probably more so than ever.

Go, buy something else for a while. You will either love it and keep it, or appreciate Rolex more than ever. My only advice would be to make sure you buy well....because you may well be flipping soon!

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying other brands.

There are so many GREAT watch brands out there, and some I hold in higher esteem than Rolex but that's a personal opinion.

Explore: JLC, Patek, A. Lange, Glashutte Original, IWC, Omega, Blanpain - to name a few...

I personally can get my "Rolex Fill" with 3-4 models... after than, they start to become redundant.

Lange if you'd like a fine strap watch. Avoid Patek unless you're a masochist. Omega if you want a sturdy, reliable, well engineered watch like Rolex. There were some cool Blancpain but now they just care about making stupid large watches. The new Vacheron Overseas are very nice.

From the sounds of it a PAM is in your future.

There are tons of brands worth exploring.

When I first started collecting I didn't like Rolex. They seemed small and all looked similar and were expensive!

Then I bought by first Rolex after lurking on trf off DSW...a 116710. I loved it and sold everything else.

Then I bought more Rolex! These are 👏

Then I found Patek, then AP, the ALS. I sold off my Rolex collection

I only made it 2 weeks without a Rolex before I missed having one dearly The perfect size, the amazing oyster bracelet, the sturdy 👑 . It was like I sold my go to blue jeans 👖 and was left with only chinos and dress pants.

This was even more perplexing at the time because I had what I would have considered a dream rotation just a few years prior. 5167/5711/15707ce/1815. I found myself switching ⌚️ Sometimes as many as three times in one day!

Now back when I had 1 Rolex in that same rotation minus the diver, I would often switch into a Rolex in the evening to unwind and relax I couldn't relax until I righted this wrong! I drove straight to my AD and bought my 116600 and it's been my favorite watch to date by a long shot.

TL;DR

If you're prone to flipping like me you may have to try the other brands if only to verify how great Rolex is. It's a costly method but very entertaining.

If and when I buy another watch, I'm pretty sure it will be a JLC. I like having a collection with multiple brands (so far Rolex, Omega, and Breitling among others). Give it a try, and good luck!

Pretty much this. I still have a few other brands but Rolex is my focus its best to speed date the others though to get it out of your system.

I don't have one (yet) but AP is another incredibly exciting way to go I think!!!! Or if you want a last whack on a Rolex a Ceramic Daytona could be a great shout.
