Price increase

Is Rolex really going to have another price increase??? That is crazy..Or are we all just fools for paying these prices. We all know they spit these watches out like nickels and the movement compared to other fine time pieces are nothing spectacular..I'm I the only one that feels this way?? I have a GMT II and a non date sub both purchased below 3,000..At the current retail prices are these watches worth it?? Or is the joke on us??

no offence Frank but this has been asked at least three times this week. My short answer is NO and the long one is- no no no.

My opinion-

At the current prices i think a rolex is well worth it expecially the GMT IIC and the YM- you get alot for your money. movements are reliable, long lasting and well made. some superior movements will need to be pampered and regulated , serviced every other year NOT a rolex.
This is also part of the cost factor- JLC PP etc all cost ALOT more to service too.

P.S all prices of metal etc have been increasing so that is part of the reason for the recent price increases.

So, I'll entertain this one b/c you didn't ask when the price increase is going to happen. So I'm going to disagree with Toph on this one (sorry Toph).

1. "Is Rolex really going to have another price increase???"
Yes, but I, nor anyone here, knows when. The did it last March, so I'm guessing around March time +- 3 months!

2. "are we all just fools for paying these prices"
EVERY time there is a price increase, people always say "Rolex is taking me out of the game, I can't afford it anymore." I have said this myself yet I just plunked down MSRP on a SS GMT IIc.

It wasn't a mistake to me. Every time I look at my watch I smile. I don't have any other tangible possession that does this, so it is 10000% worth it to me.

And here is food for thought.
If you buy a "popular" model and wear it for 4 years, you can pretty much sell it for what you paid for it four years ago. I don't know many other watches like that....
Price Evolution

Looks at some of those prices back in Feb 04 and look at the used section of TRF. Where else can you have a watch for 4 years for free?!?!?!

Any current owner should be overjoyed by the price increases. Potential buyers..not so much. As for watches being "worth" their price...is any watch really worth $10? $10K? $100K? Up to you.

Buying a Rolex is like buying Fine wine. You can buy a "2 buck chuck" and gain lots of satisfaction out of it but buying and enjoying a Chateau Margaux is a treasured experience. The memories last a lifetime.

Buy the watch and be blessed that you have the ability to do it.

I do like the pre-owned idea....

When I was visiting my AD today I did discuss the potential for a price increase soming soon. They indicated that there was no communication from Rolex Corp that a price increase was coming in the next several months. This does not mean that one is not coming, but they did say that they are informed usually 2 months in advance or so before a price increase takes effect.

There will always be a price increase at some point in the future. Why worry?
