Icon5 Buying Floor Model For Full MSRP?

Would you do this or would you be unable to shake feeling it's used due to being tried on 95823857 times?

Choices are either place new order and wait 90 days or get display model.

With a Rolex, as long as the display model looks fine you should be good. Hopefully get a 15% discount minimum if it is a PM model. If you're that concerned, many trusted sellers here may have a new with stickers intact of the same model.

I say depends on the model and how soon you want it on your wrist.

I've bought both floor and fresh out of the coffin Rolex watches and have to say I prefer them fresh knowing they haven't been over handled or mishandled (I've seen salespeople sometimes handle them pretty rough). If you ask the question, then I suspect you would rather wait for a fresh one. That said, display models are generally fine and you might be able to leverage more of a discount depending on reference. Good luck! Cheers!

Would only bother me if the watch looked beat up.

Wouldn't bother me, but I would want a 10 to 15% discount.

Unless it has been in the window display it should be fine. Check it closely for scratches or signs of abuse.

Buying Floor Model For Full MSRP?

Well if it has been tried on 95823857 times.

Then it sounds like it's been in stock for years. Prolly get a discount on that score alone.

But seriously, trying watches on ones wrist isn't adding any wear and tear IMHO.

if it was a daytonaC i would buy it out the garbage bin if i had to

In my experience all of the PCL watches show obvious microabrasions after being handled minimally, even to try on or being placed in and out of display case.

The model though I'm looking at is the new DJ41 126333, haven't found a white dial in store yet would have to order, or get one of the ones on display with another dial but that's been handled.

Also I ask because I just went through this with the Sub Bluesy, was unable to find one in its "coffin" as I've read referred to on here, though the salespeople all consistently say brand new watches don't ship in the box anyway so even with plastic on there's going to be handling or possibility of it being shown before sale is made.

Trying not to worry about it but everyone here seems to talk about getting brand new pieces as if they were the one to christen the watch so I feel sour to make large purchase on something that's been handled numerous times, even if it looks good.

Atleast with the UK if the model is demand it's likely not been touched

You are on a watch forum where members are especially picky. The average person could care less, and frankly it will get micro abrasions as soon as you wear it.

But it is your money so you can be as picky as you want.

Compared to a new model I might try for an extra 5% if I knew it had been on display for several months. Not a big deal tho.

no.

but then again, what rolex are you considering at full msrp (if a rolex)?

judging by the threads, i can only assume its a DaytonaC , BLNR, Pepsi or blue Sub --- there's no reason for any others... is there?

I wouldn't pay MSRP for a shop worn model. I'd rather wait for a BNIB coffin unit if I were to pay MSRP.

Yeah did I miss this? Which model is it? If it were a good watch or standard two tone datejust I wouldn't want pay msrp regardless of its history and status. If it's something a little harder to find you might have to pay to play.

Most importantly it really depends on the condition. I've seen a lot of floor models that have been through battle. If mint and it's a hard to find watch I wouldn't hVe a problem that it's a floor model.

Brand new Rolexes do not ship with the box when distributed to the dealer, am I mistaken? So in fact pieces sold here by trusted sellers as unworn or BNIB would have been handled to stage them in the box.

In the coffin. I would only pay MSRP for a watch in the coffin.

Much ado about nothing I say. As long as there aren't any signs of wear then it wouldn't make the least bit of difference to me whether it was on display or in the vault.

After a week of ownership any worries you had will be forgotten.

My AD is very particular about handling their display watches and they even have a small sticker on their display tray letting customers know to not let the watches touch either other when trying on multiple pieces.

Also, you can tell the fresh watches from the display case queens by the stickers on the case. I've seen a few watches that have been tried on so many times and wiped off with a cleaning cloth that the case stickers are starting to come off. I wouldn't pay full MSRP for a watch like that because clearly that means no one else has wanted it either for a while.

At most dealers, high demand watches like a Sub or Daytona sell so quickly that they won't have the opportunity to tried on many times.

I want mine out of the coffin. For example, they were still processing the Tudor I have into stock when I showed up to buy it. If I want to buy a model they have in stock, will ask how soon they can have another shipped in. I buy watches seldom enough that I am picky.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I take it you're in the U.K. and this is SS? Otherwise to hell with paying MSRP.

Bought my Sub C in it's plastic shipping container

When I decided I had researched enough and wanted new, untouched Sub C stainless, I went around to each AD in my area and found one that didn't care that I wore rather shabby cargo pants and a t-shirt. I asked if they had a Sub C and looked at the display model. I then asked if they had any untouched in their shipping container and they checked in back and they had one. I asked to open the container and examine it. I bought it on the spot at a decent discounted price because I had done some other minor business with this AD before. I not only have the watch, but the display case and all papers AND the shipping case; what, I guess, is called here the "coffin." I really like the fact that I have a nearly untouched item.

What difference does it make as long as the watch is not marked in any way,a new watch is a new watch, whether out of the safe or out of display case and all get the same warranty.
