Submariner v GMT
I've recently been thinking of buying a GMT or a Sub, and was curious why Subs seem to be more popular?
The most desirable Rolexes are often said to be the Daytona and Sub. Or am I simply mistaken? The reasons I personally prefer the GMT to the sub are because: - more useful complication - 100m is enough for me, as I don't dive (or even swim with a watch) - I like the black/blue of the BLNR, more than a plain black bezel (and I dislike the green in fact) - marginally slimmer on wrist In favour of the SUB: - obvious choice for divers - stronger in used resale value than the GMT? What am I missing? What are experienced collectors' thoughts please? |

Based on your post, you prefer and want the GMT more than the Sub. IMO, it's the most beautiful SS watch and has the date and GMT hand complications.
Go ahead and pull the trigger on the BLNR. I am sure you' re going to love wearing it. |

Yes, I personally do prefer the GMT. And the BLNR in particular.
I was curious about the thoughts of experienced collectors here in comparing the two. Although, my own mind is set on the BLNR :) Seems I may have been mistaken in believing the sub was generally favoured over the GMT though? |

To me these are 2 different watches.
I own a GMTc and will buy shortly a Subc. GMT is the right partner when travelling abroad. Choose the one your heart goed for. Both are good choice to me. |

Either are great choices and daily wearers. It's hard to argue the practicality of either. I find the GMT complication useful for travel I lean towrd the GMT.

GMT is a beauty for sure. Sub for me because I am not a fan of the date. All black, sleek and extremely versatile for any occasion.

I have a Sub ND and today picked up a BLNR! :) :) :)
I love them both. You should just buy what you like, and from your post that appears to be the BLNR - Enjoy. |

Go Submariner - since the BLNR is boring.

I had the same dilemma and opted for the BLNR. Still love the ND sub and will probably have both at some point.

The Sub is more popular in that more people have the Sub. It is not more coveted or highly regarded than the GMT. Both are equally iconic. Both have rich history behind them. One could make the case that the GMT is more quintessentially Rolex because Rolex invented the complication. They did not invent the dive watch or diving bezel. Both hold value equally well.
As to why the Sub became so popular...Dr. No.

You're not missing anything. Get the watch that matches your lifestyle and is most useful to you, not what you think may be "more popular".

Submariner is sooo common! That why I got the GMT. Got my eyes on the Sea Dweller next.

Sounds like you want the GMT so go for it. I personally prefer the Sub for the improved clasp and lack of PCLs.

The glidelock is a big advantage for the SubC models. Wish GMTs had them also.

I have a BLNR, picking up a Sea Dweller or Sub soon. I find the sub / SD to better fit my daily style.

I was lucky to have one of the first BLNR's in NYC! Love the watch can't go wrong. Picked up a SUBc last month. Couldn't resist. I think you'll eventually own both. Enjoy and go with your gut!

You should go for the GMT. Buy what you like, not for the resale value.
