Removing Half Link on the 114060
Hello again, another newb question (I did use the search function.)
I know many have said to take my 114060 to a local AD and have them swap the half link from the 12 o'clock to the 6 o'clock position. My nearest AD is about an hour away and while I will be going fairly soon (maybe the start of the new year) to try on the BLNR, I would be curious to know if anyone was successful removing their half link on their own. I have no problem removing the normal sized links it just seems that the half link is an odd size. I have googled a ton and haven't come up with any answers. Maybe there is a special screwdriver I can order that will work with this half link? Thanks again in advance guys After messing with the links my 114060 has become more comfortable but I would be curious as to how much more comfortable it will be after taking everyone's suggestions. |

Are you trying to remove the right part?
The half link uses the same screw as a full link. |

*update* I just tried again and that sucker will not budge. I think I may go to the hardware store or a local jeweler and ask if I can use one of their screw drivers. I don't wanna scratch the link. I also need to pick up some loctite for when I get this sucker dialed in. I just read that if I use a hair dryer it may heat up the loctite and make it easier to take the screw out. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks for the response. |

Should come out the same as the rest. Mine was no issue make sure you use the right loctite when putting it back in. I used 222 the low strength purple stuff.

Yeah I even heated it up super hot just now and it still won't budge. It's weird because the other links were no issue for me. I may take it to a local jeweler since the AD is far away. Or I may try ordering another screwdriver. I have read that I need a 1.6 mm or 1.8 mm I assume it's 1.6 mm since that's what most people say? |

It's the same screw head size but the screw itself is shorter. Make sure you don't lose that one as you won't be able to source one quickly. I always remove the half link in order to achieve the perfect fit.
Before you destroy that screw, get yourself a decent screwdriver: http://www.esslinger.com/individual-...e-scewdrivers/ Do you have a handheld steamer by any chance? Try using it on the bracelet to break up the Loctite. I think Loctite is acrylic based, so maybe acetone?

Also I have read 1.6 mm and 1.8 mm (more people say 1.6 mm so I'm going with that.) I may just order both just in case. I found an old thread that said 1.7 mm is the exact fit but they're hard to find. Thank you. |

Just FYI, I had this problem from two new Rolexes I purchased.. a Submariner and a BLNR.
I had to remove the entire clasp along with the links in question and let it sit in boiling water for a few minutes then removed it when it was hot while wearing oven mitts. Turns out some jerk factory worker in Geneva installed the screws with a thin layer of plastic in between the link and screw. Presumably, there is some sort of plastic on these bracelets while it moves around in Switzerland to prevent scratches. Seems like the screw is then installed by stabbing through this plastic, letting some material get inside the link. Unscrewing the screws made no difference. It would turn but not push out. Pliers didn't help. It was jammed by the plastic. Boiling the links melted the plastic and loosened the screw. Just food for thought. |

Hey guys I found this tool at Home Depot (I was impatient to get these links out) it was only $6 and it works GREAT! It's like the exact size.
http://imgur.com/a/wjO4e I moved the half link but I haven't had time to wear it and see if it fits better. |

It comes with 5 different tips and the one that works is 1.6 mm. (it is in inches but it converts to 1.59 mm so my guess is just round up to 1.6 mm.)
I don't know why my other little screwdriver worked for every link except the half link. This screwdriver is better made though (the tip.) It fits right in and doesn't slip at all when you try to turn it. It seems like it was made for it. |

I'm glad you were able to make it happen. Wanna hear something ironic? I received my Hulk today and whoever put the Loctite on the screw felt generous. I ended up destroying the screwdriver tip but luckily didn't damage the screw, had to finish the job with some random screwdriver that I had laying around. I'll have to tighten the screws once the replacement tips arrive. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

That sucks man, yeah I think I had the same issue with whoever put the half link in and the screw that connects to glide lock put WAY too much loctite on. That little $6 screwdriver works amazing! If it didn't work I was going to order one of the nice ones suggested in this thread (I'll still probably order one I just wanted this done asap lol.) Congrats again and thanks for the advice |
