Have enjoyed reading the posts as a newer member to the Forum. So thank you for all the posts.

Was looking to get a second watch to go with my no date Sub that i have had for a decade or so. Was thinking the 40 Sea Dweller or the new Explorer.

On the SD, I really liked the new glidelock clasp (wish my Sub has one) and I am not a cyclops fan and like the date. What I struggle with a bit is that I regret having two that are so similar. The sub was a special gift and have no interest in trading it in. One day I see it going to one of my two sons. .

On the explorer, I liked that it was a bit different and very classic and still something you can beat up. I don't mind not having the date and am used to it at this point. I wish it had the glideclasp but also like that it's a bit lighter and lower profile.

Anyone have these three watches and could give an opinion? I know at the end of the days its a personal preference, but curious if others have gone through this thought process and/or have all three in their collection.

I had the 14060M and think it would have paired well with my 116600 or 214270.

If you're open to other brands, a classic Sub goes well with classic models from JLC, PP, and AP.

I'd look at a YM esp blue dial for something a bit different but still sporty or a Milgauss.

Well, I've got a 14060m, and I had a couple of Explorers that I simply didn't wear very often. So I flipped the Explorers and bought an SD4K to go with the Sub. Personally, I don't mind having both watches even though they do appear very similar. The SD is my work watch, and I'll switch to the Sub for weekends or days off. I'm definitely planning on adding at least one or two more watches to my collection, and thereby introduce some variety from not only within the Rolex lineup, but via other watchmakers as well.

I have the 14060m, which was my first, and owned the previous, so-called short hands explorer. I also have owned the SD4K for awhile.

Long story short, the hands never bothered me on the explorer, but I didn't bond with it. So I traded it here and haven't missed it.

The SD4K, on the other hand, is my absolute favorite watch. I love the glidelock, and my 14060m coexists with it nicely.

If the question is whether the sub and SD are similar, to most of the population, probably yes. I like them both for different reasons and appreciate their differences.

You could go in a different direction and pick up a blue pelagos or something else with a different dial but still in the diver realm if that's your preference. Lots of good options!

I went slightly older Explorer I (36 mm version) after my Sub. I think it's a great addition. The new model is really nice, too. To switch it up more, you could look at a Polar Explorer II or a GMT.

Nothing wrong with a 14060 - 116600 combo, I have them both. But if it's your only two watches maybe consider getting something a little more different.

Agreed with dcheeta...you will enjoy both but if it were me I'd look toward something different like a gmt...but maybe divers are your only game...nothing wrong with that either. Great choice on the five digit no date.

I too am not a fan of the cyclops on the sub however it certainly works better with other models (IMO).

How about the classic 2?

You could consider Reverso on smaller size side or Panerai on larger.

I have a strong suspicion that if you went SD4K the wrist time of the 14060 would seriously decline. They are "pretty" similar and the SD4K is amazing.

New EXP would be a great companion as well. My only issue is that it can be worn in the same exact manner as the Sub. Why not branch out a bit?

I'd go with a smaller , 36 mm Explorer if you can find one. It's much nicer than the newer Explorer; I own both and prefer the 36mm version.
