Why oh why oh why oh why... Do I have such expensive tastes in pens?
This pen is ruining my evening!
I stumbled on it while researching Urishi Lacquer and Maki-e pens on You Tube. If you have some time and want to break into deep, deep areas of fountain pens as art, Google some of them up on You Tube. Everything from how to make the lacquers to Maki-e artists extraordinaire! All hand crafted, lacquered, and painted. It now has its fangs in my left buttock! I am trying to shake free and I keep crawling away, but it seems to catch up to me! I want one!!! I'm getting a second job! https://thepelikansperch.com/2016/09...spring-autumn/

And the only cure is to purchase the beauty. Great pen. Collecting is addictive.

We tend to think of Japan and China when the subject turns to usrishi and maki-e but as that Pelikan indicates, many European makers also produced fantastic examples. Here is one from ST Dupont called the Medici and based on the design of the Duomo in Florence.
Giotto's Tower at the Duomo If you look closely at the white sections that represent the marble what you find is the artist has actually added darker streaks just as seen in real marble. |

Great pen. Step up. Life is too short. That is my justification of purchase talking. Really. A classic, good looking pen.

Beautiful pen, indeed. In my case when it comes to maki-e pens it's truly bad because of the ethiology of the problem. Back in the early eighties, an old school friend who used to own a chain of pawn shops, gave me a spectacular fountain pen that had stayed at one of his shops. I had never seen anything like it.
The pen was a Pilot with a blue lacquer background, gold designs and lots of gold dust all over the pen. The pen was looked amazing but the tip of the nib was damaged probably as the result of a fall. It took me quite a bit of doing but I was able to replace it with one sent to me from the factory. The pen was a sight to behold and it wrote fabulously. I kept it for over a year until it was stolen under highly unusual circumstances. Ever since then I've been missing that pen but had never seen one similar to it. The yearning and the search continues to this day. |

Beautiful pen Richard. Over $3k ouch!, Thanks again for helping me with the MB I recently picked up. I say if you really want it, then go for it!

As with anything that is as expensive as this pen is I typically take a step back and wait. If after a week or two it is still pulling on me as badly as it was at the onset, then I will add it to the collection. If not, then I will move on, but revisit it in the future.
