preventative care

Hey all,
Got my very first Rolex today, a 116610. I've been waiting a long time for one of these (pics attached)
I have some questions as far as preventative maintenance when it comes to caring for the watch. Hope you can help and please excuse the (for some) dumb questions.
If I were it everyday or every other, should I wind it or is it unnecessary?
Is a watch box needed?
If I do need to wind it daily, how many times?

Congrats and welcome aboard!
Shouldn't need to wind it daily, if you're wearing daily.
Read the booklets, simply soap and water to clean it.
You can use the box that came with it to store it. Unless you're talking bout a winder.

As long as you move around enough, you shouldn't need to wind it daily, but even if it stops, 40-50 turns should be enough to get the power reserve to full. The occasional winding isn't going to harm your watch.

Just wash it with soap and water when it gets dirty, dry with a clean micro fiber cloth and it will look great for many years to come.

Where you store it doesn't really matter. Watch box, nightstand or pretty much anywhere is fine.

Yes, you must wind it once at noon and once before going to bed. At night you must place it in a secure box and during the day make sure you protect it with transparent stickers easily found on Amazon. Every so often put the watch to your ear to make sure it's functioning. The movement sounds tick, tock, tick, tock...

Congrats on your first Rolex- an iconic one at that.

For under 10K, you went from a guy who could find out the time to one who now has a connection to a century of one state-of-the-art watchmaking innovation after another.

The next quarter-million dollars you spend on fine watches won't get you a leap that big.

All the best,
Hilo

Congrats! Just wear it! That's what it's designed for... and you won't have to worry about winding it or performing any other kind of preventative maintenance. When it needs to be cleaned, warm soapy water and a pat-down with a micro-fiber cloth will do the trick!

Congratulations on a great watch, wear daily and enjoy. Scrub down once a week or so with dish soap and a baby's toothbrush, dry with a microfiber cloth and you're good to go.
