The Rolex passion report states that the dj41 might be discontinued and replaced with a dj40. Would this happen after the dj41 only being in production for a year?

Many felt it was too great a departure from the classic 36. 41, 36, 40....they all look good.

True. It was a little bizarre changing the manufacture line for another version that, despite a slight refinement, was still a 41mm.

They did however have a long run, unlike the DJ41 would have if they changed it a year after introduction.

I think they should of went straight to the DJ40 right after they made a DD40. No clue why they stuck with the DJ41 but moved to the DD40.

Probably because the DJ2 has been a great seller over the years, and based on the demographic who buy the DJ2, Rolex knew that refinement would suffice as an update.

As the for the DD, I suspect a slightly more 'senior' aged clientele buy it. That's a massive generalisation I know, but I suspect there is a degree is truth to it.

I was at an AD the other day and compared a DJ41 and a DD40 from a case size perspective. I saw no difference.

It's not a very precise approach, but I think DJ41 and DD40 are the same size, like for DJ36 et DD36 or DJII and DDII.

I doubt it, it wears quite a bit smaller than the DJ2 so doesn't need to be slimmed down any more otherwise like the small-feeling DD40 it starts moving into 36mm territory.

For me it is the bezel. The DJ41 bezel is a tiny bit narrower, helping the proportions match the DJ.

It think the DJ41 will stay, and gradually nudge out the DJII over time/Basels.

Personally I'd guess, no. The DJII was discontinued. Perhaps some spoke in confusion.

Re-read the Passion Report and you'll see that is was just re-cycled from last year. It starts by saying that the DJ will be downsized because the DD was downsized 'last year' which was really 2 years now. It also never mentioned the "DJ41" it says "DJ" and as we know the DJII is also 41mm. This prediction was partially right from last year. They did redesign the DJ but not down to 40mm... just cleaned up the proportions a bit but kept it at 41mm. They did put the new movement into it, but they only brought it out in the TT. So his prediction was partly correct.

I hope they will follow up the DJ41 with a SS version this year. I can't see the size changing again... this prediction was just recycled from last year.

I don't think the Datejust will go to 40mm. They will likely stay with the refined case at 41mm. I think the safest Basel bet is the Datejust 41 with the Jubilee bracelet. I will be in line for a blue or white index dial once it's announced.

Actually the DJ2, only needed to have the bezel trimmed a bit more (slimmer) add a few more facets and that would had made it "symmetric again....

Why they did not go this way? Maybe too much precious metal, less profits...

Good point, I don't have a precision measure but I'm sure I've seen a photo on the forum in which it measures at no more 40mm, I've looked but I can't find it, it's there somewhere :)

I think that 40mm is the perfect size for a sports watch but it is totally unsuitable for a DJ. The 36mm size is absolutely perfect for a DJ as it balance size with appearance.

I had measured them already ages ago and the size on both is pretty much the same case size - it's the slight refinements that make any difference visually.

The distance from lug end to lug end is slightly different. On the DJ2 it's 49mm, on the DJ41 it's about 47.5 if I recall.
