About to buy my first Rolex!
Hello all, as the subject states, I am looking to buy my first Rolex and would appreciate any feedback possible from all you experts here.
So, I am pretty set on my first Rolex being a Submariner. Leaning strongly towards the SUB C 116610LN. And most likely a slightly used one since I don't want to spend retail of $8,550 US at an AD. I prefer the SUB C slightly over the previous model 16610LN. However, I don't want to buy the Sub C if there is a high chance this is going to be considered a less desirable Sub model in 10 or 20 years from now. I am not buying it as an investment but like having the peace of mind I can recoup most of my money in the future if needed by selling it. Since the SUB C has been out for 5 years or so now, can I get feedback on it's desirability? Specifically in comparison to the previous Sub model. I'm sure there are many out there that prefer the older model but is the consensus overall positive towards the SUB C? Little chance it will be deemed an inferior Sub in 10+ years? If that is a high possibility, I'd probably get the older Sub 16610. I am very clear on the difference between the two models just interested in knowing if the newer one is less desirable overall. Also, I know Basel is coming up in March. Is there any reason for me to hold off on buying a Sub until after Basel? Is there expected to be any changes to the Sub announced at Basel? Thanks! |

First off you do not have to pay 8550 for a new one. You can Easley get a new one for less. Second. No way of knowing which will be more popular down the road. You should choose which feels better on the wrist. They both feel very diff and wear differently. Also no there won't be any changes at basel

Welcome to TRF. The Sub C is a beautiful reference and worth the premium over a 5 digit IMO. Go for it, it's a beauty.

Sub C is probably the top or one of the top most desirable watches (and for good reason). It was my first rolex - and truly a stunning watch in every way. Can't go wrong!

Sub c. Go for it. Unless you prefer mixing it up with a sea dweller.

Most new Rolex buyers would like the upgrades on the SuC. It's a solid watch and will be desirable in the future.

Buy the watch that SINGS to you, that your wallet will allow.....REGARDLESS of what OTHERS (i.e. complete strangers) will consider a less desirable Sub model in 10 or 20 years from now
P.S. FWIW, I chose an A serial 16610 (SEL, lug holes) |

I've had my SubC for 4 years now and still love it. I've since supplemented the collection with an EXP2 and BLNR, but really love the size of the SubC and the look of the ceramic bezel.
Also, look at DavidSW's site - you can get a nearly new sub for far less than than MSRP (~$7k). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Don't worry about 10-20 years from now. Your Sub will hold it's value regardless. It will never be worthless and in 20 years it will be worth more than you paid for it.
You about 10-20 years until the Sub gets an update.

A Sub of any era is always a good choice. As other stated, look around you can find BNIB for much less than you quoted.

The Sub C 116610LN, IMO, is one of the most handsome sport watches in the Rolex catalog. The glidelock clasp alone is worth the price of admission. Plus, there are other enhancements. It's a phenomenal daily wearer. You won't regret buying it, and you can always add to it later on with a GMT.

My choice is the 116610LN or LV as well, but if you are in doubt than do try a 16610. Two completely different watches.
The Seadweller 116600 has probably more in common with the 16610 from an aesthetic point of view. Might give that one a try as well. No need to rush, just be sure

If you like the subc, that's all that counts. You will never, ever be able to predict what is going to become 'more desirable', my friend, so just get what you like.
When you start shopping, give the trusted sellers here in the classifieds a shot. You may be able to afford NIB as opposed to what you find out there at the AD. |

Sub c no doubt! The clasp alone clinches it for me! Not to mention I like the entire watch better.

Thanks for all the feedback.
Man, I was so close to pulling the trigger on a Sub C and then I fell in love with the new Daytona C white dial. Yes, I know about the wait list with an AD and the 5k over msrp on the secondary market. I'm almost tempted to wait a year when I'm sure prices will fall. Love that white dial. So many beautiful Rolex's to choose from! |

Soooo, odds of a SS Daytona C White Dial being available within the year at sticker price? Any speculation here?
