Use GMT for tracking time?

This may be a silly question, but what the heck, what are forums for?! I've been planning on buying a ND SubC, but recently have been considering a Pepsi GMT instead. The reasons are purely aesthetic. I love the Pepsi and every time I see one in the wild, I'm drawn to it.

I have a couple of dive watches that I wear fairly often and I use the elapsed time function on them regularly. I have little kids so timing how long they've napped, played at the park, etc is something I do regularly. This is probably a stretch, but is there anyone out there who uses the GMT bezel for elapsed time? Been thinking about how that may work and I'm not sure it's feasible. I'm reaching here!

Any other general opinions regarding 16710 vs 114060?

I bet there are a lot of people using their older GMT bezels that way.
Something the ceramic GMT's aren't as good for (24 clicks i.e. 2.5 minute increments) plus they can't be used to track odd time zones...

The 16710 is much more versatile compared to the SubC imho.

I am confused

I use my BLNR for tracking time everyday, that is why I wear it.

My verbiage was perhaps a bit clumsy. Obviously we wear watches to track time! What I mean is tracking elapsed time like you would using a diver. A way to look down and quickly surmise that 25 minutes have elapsed since I started timing.

16710 and prior are easier - the bezel rotates freely, so yes, I would just set the top arrow to whenever I want to mark the start time, just like I would with a dive bezel.

Newer 116710 models are on ball bearings (I think) where the clicks are more defined - 2 per hour? So you can still ballpark it if need be.

I use mine this way often. Although it doesn't have minute markings on the bezel you can approximate which is often good enough.

Correct for the 5-digit reference. The 116710 is 24 clicks but not on ball bearings, those are used on the SubC.

I use my gmt2c for tracking elapse time, while its not pin point accurate. It still give me an general idea. Ideally you just want to line up the triangle as close to the minute hand as possible and start tracking the minutes that passes.

Use the bezel on my 16710 [or any other watch w/ a rotating bezel] as a simple timer daily, as much as a second time zone.

Both are super watches.....you cannot really go wrong with either, though the SubC 'wears' slightly bigger on the wrist. It also has the maxi dial and some movement updates. That said, the 16710 is a beautiful watch and increasingly sought after. Very versatile in terms of bezel insert or bracelet change, and can do pretty much everything a Sub can. At present, I would be swinging more towards the 16710 but it comes down to personal choice in the end......good luck!

I use my GMT as a timer quite often. I rotate the outer bezel until the pointer is aligned with the minutes hand when I am timing something. Works like a champ.

I use the gmt bezel to time things all the time- parking meters, cooking things, timing kids.

But between the two I'd go 114060. I like the modern pieces better- just a personal preference

They can be used to track odd time zones because i do it all the time when I'm on a layover in Goa, India, which is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT. You just wear the watch upside down on your wrist.

Sounds mad I know, but it works perfectly.

I agree the 16710 is a much more versatile watch compared to the subC.

I use my GMT for this all the time. Timing steaks on the BBQ, ribs in the oven, you name it. I also use the triangle to mark times that I need to pick kids up or be at a meeting etc. My memory is crap. I rely on my rotating bezels a lot, be it the GMT or a dive bezel.

GMT is the most versatile Rolex. I like the GMTc LN for best bang for buck
