Ivy League's Cruise Ship Saga part III
Hello Everyone:
I have arrived back home safe and sound after our Caribbean cruise last week. I posted a thread awhile back regarding my GMT IIc that I purchased over the phone from an AD in St. Thomas Virgin Islands. Then Hurricane Ike threw a wrench in the itinerary, and we did not get to make our port of call in St. Thomas. Luckily I was able to locate my watch in Grand Cayman, and finally made my long awaited purchase. I have to say that this watch was well worth the wait, and it is everything that I have ever wanted in a watch. The Maxi-Dial is beautiful and easy to read. The polished centre links really shines in the sun, and the ceramic bezel is absolutely gorgeous. I tried to be creative with my photos, although I simply cannot compete with the likes of Jocke and all the other camera enthusiast here on this forum. Thanks for all your support here guys. I have learned a lot about my GMT IIc and other Rolex watches in general. Thanks for reading my post. I.V. |

Great watch. You will love it for it's accuracy and amazing good looks. I have the TT version and am still in awe with the watch. It is one of my favorites.
Nice photos. Terry Newton

Fantastic!! The watch will have a lot more significance to you, based upon the challenges you faced in order to purchase it. Enjoy her, she's a beauty!!

I've been wearing this watch for only 7 days and the polished center links are already showing some scratches and scuff marks. I wash my GMT every morning with a little optical lens solution and I use a fresh terry cloth to dry and polish the watch. My 15 year old automatic chrono Tag Heuer took a beating but it's still running perfectly. The bracelet is very worn and I hope this GMT will also age gracefully as well.
Is it common to have the bracelet replaced every couple of years? I.V. |

1. Get used to the "patina" on the center links as the watch ages and have it polished at the service time. 2. Be obsessive with a Cape Cod polishing cloth and freak out every time you touch your watch against anything. 3. Have the center links brushed.

Great watch! Thanks for the pictures. And I know what you mean about the scratches on the center links, I had the same AAAGGGH! moment when I noticed mine was scratched after only a couple days. I got the same advice from DSJ and made the same decision! It really still looks very good even with a few every-day scratches.
DSJ, you give very good advice... are you a therapist? |
