Wanting blue watch next - need advice

Hi all. I need your excellent opinions on my situation. I have a Sub date and an Explorer II white dial. So I have a black and a white dial watch, both with brushed steel links. I am in the market now for another Rolex and I definitely want polished center links this time and a blue dial. I narrowed it down to the Yachtmaster I blue dial or a Datejust II azzuro blue smooth bezel with roman numerals. I obviously would get both if I could afford it but I can't! My thought is I have two sport watches already so the Datejust would make sense as a dressier watch but I do like the Yachtmaster equally as much. Any thoughts?

Oh, and I completely understand people have REAL problems in the world that are REAL compared to what blue Rolex to buy next. That is why I used the word "issue".

I happen to like the YM Blue dial more than he DJ you've pictured, but if it's a toss up for you I'd probably lean towards the DJ as I feel it would round off your collection more so than the YM.

That said, I would wait a couple months to see what Basel has in store for the potential SS DJ41.

Lastly, I won't over think your "real world problems" disclaimer. IMO membership, subscription and participation in a group of enthusiasts discussing nothing but luxury watches already implies that no problem is a REAL problem.

The 116622 YM is stunning and obviously sings to you, although it is also a sports watch but the platinum bezel ups its game, making it perfect for dressy situations. Touch of red and the sunburst blue really is wonderful.
There's a thing about the Roman DJ, because it's lacking lume and I love seeing my watch glow in the dark I shy away from it. I had a Roman DJ before and lost the love for it rather quickly.

If this is for myself, I'll go for the TOG 116264 blue and purchase an extra super jubilee bracelet in addition to the PCL oyster or vice versa. The TOG triple red on blue is beyond nice. On the other hand I wear 36mm well, to many it can be small.

Waiting for Basel is good advice
Also, before making any decision go and try them on. I thought I loved the DJII and had planned on it being my next piece. Then I tested one for a weekend and realized it wasn't for me.
Good luck

Rumor has it at Basel the DJ 41MM is going to turn into 40MM. Anyone else hear/read this?

The yacht master is definitely the more attractive watch in my opinion however, with your collection being all sport, the DJ might better complement the other two if you have occasion to need a dress watch.

that's all it is really, just rumors.

No one knows but IMO i think the newest DJ will remain 41 (along with the classic 36mm). If they switched it to 40, that would mean 4 different DJ size variations all within a two year span? I just can't imagine it. I think they take the existing 2016 TT DJ41 (which is a home run) and make it steel.

The DJ II wears bigger than the YM if that makes a difference at all to the decision.

You are definitely right about that! I tried them both on, and the DJ II and my ceramic Sub seem to be a lot larger than my 40MM Explorer II

I like the YM a little more than that datejust. I would also consider the milgauss gv Z blue. Waiting a month for baselworld is also not a bad idea.

Good call on the blue dial Milgauss. I like the proportions of the Milgauss a lot - case is a little chunkier than the DJ II with a slightly smaller diameter.

Just curious. Why does everyone keep saying wait for Basel? If that was the case, wouldn't it never be a good time to buy a watch since Basel is an annual event so why not just always wait and see ...? Come April 2017, if there is nothing you like from Basel, why not wait until Basel 2018? 2019? etc.

i VERY much favor the YM blue but personal taste. i generally not a fan of Roman numerals but that aside the YM blue has a fantastic color dial. If you prefer sports watches -- why not!! even if you already have. Did you consider Deepsea Blue?

YM is dressy for a sport watch. Wears nice a flat. I like the YM over the DJ of these two.

Have you considered a 116613LB?

I did and I was lucky enough to try one on. It is THICK and HEAVY! IMO, too heavy to wear. But a beautiful piece of art.

I own a SS Sub date so I figured that would be too redundant.

Get what you like as opposed to what will "round out" your collection. Your collection might change and then where does that put you?

I like the YM better of those two.

Because Baselworld is 6 weeks away. Mid march. Would we be saying the same thing if it was 6months away? No we would not.

What about this one? Sportier but still dressy

With the smooth bezel probably. Darker blue dial than the Roman numerals
