GMT-Master II vs Sub vs Sea-Dweller?

Which would you choose to purchase? I'm just curious how some might approach such a thing and what process they might go through. Personally I think I might lean towards a GMT-M2 since I don't see many out and about.

You will find the Sub very often ( a wonderful watch,) I have not seen a SD in person yet. I have a GMT-II and love it. I went through the same path like you, debating and saking advice from members here, but the GMT-II is it for me. Best of luck.

I like variety and color, I try to always pick color before a standard black dial or bezel. I've bought all 3. 116613lb for the tt and the sunburst blue dial. I've bought gmt Blnr because it's probably one of the best looking watches out there and for the AD I've gone with the Dssd d-blue again for color of the dial and the heft of the watch. I love each for their verity.

I have the gmt since 7 years. I love it. Planning to get the no date sub as well. So my advice: get any, you'll get the other eventually

Try them and pick the one you like most. It sounds corny, but deciding for or against a watch because you see them everywhere is like deciding against a car you see everywhere. If you like it, who cares how many others are out there. Having said that, my choice is the SubC Date. Good luck choosing.

I agree with this and this would be my pick as well (116610ln) Depending on where you live you may not see many Rolexes period. I live in SW Florida in a nice area where people definitely have money but I still have yet to see a Sub out in the wild (That said I really only started paying attention once I got mine in November so I'm sure I'll see one eventually.) The only Rolexes I see are two tone datejusts on jubilee bracelets (older folks.) Also there is a reason why the sub is so popular, it's a great watch.

You can't really go wrong with any of your choices, just don't shy away from something because it's popular. You should pick the watch that YOU like the best

Try them on, the SD wears very different even though is bigger it looks better. Only down side is if you wear dress shirts, as they probably won't go over it

I would say if you will use the GMT function then get the GMT. If not sub is the ticket. I have both a BLNR and a 114060. I wear them both and they are both fantastic in there own right. I travel quite a bit so the GMT is really convenient and it is a little more dressy and a very interesting looking watch. The sub is more casual and the fact it does not have PCL's means it shows very little wear. Either way I am sure you will be thrilled with your decision they are both fantastic watches.
Sea-Dweller you will want to try on and see if it works for you. I really liked it, I don't know if it is worth the extra to you but it is more unique, sits a little smaller but taller on the wrist. Many people like the date sans Cyclops, for me if you are going to have the date, get the cyclops at least you can see it at a glance but that is just my opinion.

For my first, I don't know yet if only I tried to trust my feelings only (the YM dark rhodium and GMT LN were available, some delay on sub. and even more on the BLNR).
The easy way seemed to be the YM to my first one, but to be sure I let some weeks between trials.

The winner was the BLNR, even if I knew the difficulty to get one, I was ready to wait.

So, take your time, try the different models, wait, got back to and see if the magic is still there.

I went through the same dilemma with my first Rolex . At the time it was going to be my only Rolex ever. I went with the GMT but later added the SD4k. If I had to keep only one, it would be the GMT. The GMT is more comfortable and shiny due to the polished center links. The SD is more matte looking and taller/ thicker but the glide lock is very nice and useful. Ultimately it comes down to whether you travel often and need a GMT function or need a count down timer. I travel more than time things

I did as well but there were things i learned in my research that i am not a fan of. Such as:
1. PCL (Polished center links). This alone made me not want the GMT II. Although that BLNR is gorgeous to me. But i hate scratches on the bracelet and on PCL it looks terrible.
2. I am not a fan of the Cyclops bubble. At first it didn't bother me on my EXP II. But once i had it i hated the cyclops.
3. The SD4K has everything i want. Brushed bracelet, No Cyclops. It's perfect.

GMT, always choose GMT. Prefer to have the 24 hour hand as I change time zones a several times a year.

2 step process:

Do you fly/travel more than you (swim, boat, watermsports, dive)?

How big is your wrist?





If you fly more and your wrist are on the smaller side the GMT II is the way to go.

If you are around the water more and have larger wrist check out the sub or DS

The GMT Master 2 and the sea dweller are the only two rolexs I like. I favour the GMT personally because I can use the GMT function but I did own a old 5 digit SD and loved it amazing watch. I thought it was much better than the sub in every way IMO owned a 5 digit sub and it did nothing for me sold it on after a few months.

you just have to choose the one that speaks to you.

when you are dealing with this much money at the end of the day it doesn't matter if one costs a thousand bucks more. you are going to have it for a long time, and if you bought the one you liked less for less money eventually you aren't going to be happy because you like the other one more.

Functionality GMT. Beater SUB. Sport,diving, ocean etc Sea Dweller. Keep in mind the gmt and sub are more formal too for those types of occasions. I have the GMT nothing but good things.

Go to the AD, put all 3 in front of you and let the one that sings to you most define how you pic. That simple.

Sub C date. My rationale is that a SD is too big and hefty for my wrist and GMTII is just a useless complication for me, as I don't often travel to different timezones. I also think the sub looks the best out of all three, but I love all of them...just the sub the most.
