Get back in the game via the most disliked Rolex

Dear all,
Used to be a big time flipper, have had almost "all" Rolexes, not at the same time of course but had at least 3-4 watches at the same time and flipped constantly.

About 18 months ago the collection consisted of a Patek 5712, SeaDweller 4000 and a Datejust 36mm on super jubilee and white gold bezel. Was actually quite happy with that and hadn't flipped for about six months. We then had a burglary at home and all watches were stolen. All was taken care of by the insurance company and i was happy.

But now to my problem... No watch sings to me, dosent matter which price or brand. Are currently wearing a Apple watch and love the "no statement" status of it.

Could the YMII in steel be the way back in the game. Why are there so little love for the YM II? Could this be the new Paul Newman? ;)

Any help apreciated!!!

The Yacht Master, to me, is a niche watch that is very busy looking. I used to race sail boats and the YM isn't a watch I would have worn on the boats I raced. There was just too much banging around to risk such an expensive watch.

Little love because of the size and cost.

I dont mind it but its about my last choice in the sport models. I dont sail.

Also used to do sailing (2 tonnes by Bruce Farr) and the watches you used where digital watches with countdown functions. Occasionally you could see some Leumania yachting watches. The YMII is for "dock sailing"

It indeed isn't popular, probably because the complication isn't very useful in everyday life. If shooting for a watch that size, I'd go with a Deep Sea. Regarding future appreciation, I'd leave that out of the equation for any modern purchase. Buy what you'd like to wear, that's your safest bet.

Just a suggestion... unless you are looking for a Rolex specifically.

I would try something gold on. Seems like you haven't had a solid gold watch in our collection. Might just spark your love again. Id probably go with an all gold rolex. Good price point and just great watches.

As do I Tom..

Also not sure why so many seem to think that one needs to be a sailor to own the watch either?! The vast majority of Sub owners are to scared to wear their watch in a bath tub, let alone the pool or actual diving in the ocean.
Then we have the the Explorer marketed to kerplunkers and mountaineers, yet most of those owners biggest outdoor activity with the watch is a stroll along the footpath to the local shopping mall!
Then except for Tom, how many race car drivers are actually tearing up the track with their Daytona on the wrist?
Many don't even use the complication the watch has.

These watches are marketed for their intended design yes, but lets be honest, how many actually buy the watch for anything other than its appeal to the buyer as a watch, and watch only?

Buy what appeals, and not what may or may not be 'popular'!

I really think the Yachtmaster ii is a good looking watch. It has grown on me since I first saw it. Especially the YG one with the blue bezel if money isn't an issue.
Concerning the complication that people feel useless, who cares? You are wearing the watch and it looks good. Not the complication.
I would say go for it if your wrist allows it. It's a stunner.

I disagree I think the Apple Watch is a statement piece on the trendy anti-mechanical watch side.

So why not repurchase the timepieces you already owned? They're available and you have insurance reimbursement.

Sounds like you don't want the conventional looking Rolex now, maybe you want a fresh slate and no reminders, so YM2 and SkyD are good choices, try them all on, PMs too.

I love the YMll, and I do think that the least desired Rolex watches now, will be the most collectable in the future...

Don't ask me how I know...

I definitely prefer the YM1 over the YMII. My two cents . . .

If it pleases you, you should consider it. I strongly recommend against purchasing anything with hopes of high re-sale value, unless you decide to get into the business. The marketplace is a fickle mistress, and for every good purchase you make, you'll probably make some less than wonderful ones. I have watches that have appreciated 4000% in ten years, and watches that have lost nearly 90% of their initial value. This is normal.

Why not just get an Aquanaut? No one will no what it is, and it'll be on comfy rubber like an Apple Watch.

I like the ym ii but I already have blue toned watches 116613 lb Blnr d-blue... if I wanted to buy another I would go with the wg it looks very nice and plain compared with the Ss or yg models.

I like the YM2. So, it that's got your eye, I say give it a shot.

And could not agree more with Rob's comments above.

I actually like the watch very much; it's just a tad too big for my taste. Otherwise, I would own one in yellow gold.

Love my YM II SS. Love it so much, I sold my 2 year old BLNR to partially finance it.

Yes, the watch face is busy. Very busy. The lume isn't that great either as the markers are small. It's also confusing to determine the time if you're sitting in a dark movie theatre.

I still love it though. I'm a big guy and the 44mm dial suits me just fine. I've owned a DSSD before and the YM II SS is easier to wear, although, I liked the DSSD also.

The YMII SS is the most expensive SS Prof model Rolex has in all SS.

It is a great watch, it is large with a reasonable profile. I will agree that the price throws a lot of potential buyers off.

The quick answer is "yes". We do have several members who have sported that watch in photos in the past.
