...a Submariner are for experienced people:

Well, I certainly don't agree with you, but to each his own.

Great photo! But I am an "oldie" and one of my newest watches is an Explorer.

My point exactly.
An Explorer is outdated. A Submariner is always on point. Quote:

Explorer by definition means one who explores an unfamiliar area, also known as a "newbie"?

Explorer
Any day and every day over a gold Sub. A gold Sub is like a Land Rover Defender with a vinyl roof and white wall tires.

First Rolex I've worn that I forget I'm wearing it. Feels like it is a part of me . I can appreciate it so much more after having tried most of them. Pretty close to perfection.

That gold sub screams,"look at me, please, look at me."
I can have any watch I want and wear an Explorer. Don't even wear my 16610 much anymore. |

Now let's go overboard and say the current Rolex lineup is for newbies, vintages are for the more experienced people...
Jokes aside while the Sub looks great in gold, the idea of PM Rolex will never stick with me...Sub or no Sub. Sent from my F8132 using Tapatalk |

Just my personal opinion and some experience. I love my Explorer I over other models, just because:
1). This design the only one that sings to me, not too sporty, not too formal. I can wear it all the time. This is perfect watch. 2). "Explorer" name is perfect, too. I take myself as explorer, because in the past 20 years of my life, I have been getting into a new stage to "explorer" and move further every 4-5 years. I love this exploring feeling and it makes my life better and better. This watch is great motivation for me. So, I took explorer as my first Rolex and still do not have plan for a second one. I would say I am "experienced" in moving uphill and explore as newbie in each stage... |

Lovely photo. Brings out the blue. The gold case and bracelet really glow.
As for your comment, for me, personally, the Submariner was the first Rolex I heard of (thanks to the Bond movies). It defined, for a long time, what a Rolex was to me. Years later, after owning a GMT and Sub, and finally having the income to indulge this blend of hobby and passion, I discovered the Explorer. So, for me, the Explorer was something I only appreciated after becoming better educated about watches in general and Rolex in particular. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Controversial . . .
however, my first Rolex was an Explorer 2 about 15 years ago and my current line-up includes a 114060 . . . so maybe your right
