fatboy dials

How rare are fatboy dials? What makes them special, and what years were the manufactured?

What is a fatboy dial? You might want to provide details, such as the model number you are referring to, years of manufacture and anything else that would help us to help you.

yeah. I've seen them referred to as fat boy as well. see the following: https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/watc...0/id-j_227374/

"An attractive example of a Datejust in steel and rose gold, rather than the more common steel and yellow gold, made exponentially more rare by the "fat boy" dial"

Were these dials really that rare? What makes them special?

Ok, wide boy - fat boy, same dial with different names.

As far as "wide boys" being rare, I wouldn't call them rare but they are less common than the regular stick dials.

I was at a watch show this week in Dallas and there were plenty of "wide boys" there for sale.

I would agree that a rose gold "wide boy" dial is rare and one you won't find very often.

Agree, the rose gold wideboy and hands are quite uncommon

u/whirlwynds, the indices on that watch are wide-boy, but the hands aren't. And I'm not sure about that apparent Morellis finish on some parts of the watch but not others - unless someone chimes in that this watch is a factory model I'm inclined to think some parts at least might be er replacements

EDIT I might be seeing things, does the 10-o'clock lug have the bezel and jubilee-link finish? That's what I mean

nope, finishing on the lugs is brushed, but the way it photographed it looks stippled. only the bezel and center links have the florentine finish.

I don't believe that is a wide boy dial either - the indices are too long. Compare the above to this 1803 WB:

This is the wide boy (not the one shown in the previous post). I believe that the applied index and hands are to match.
