Incoming Nomos!

I had been looking at Nomos since I first got into this hobby and was keen to scratch that itch for some time. I liked the fact they had developed their own in-house movements and I was a fan of their restrained, minimalist designs and quirky, irreverent marketing. They've developed quite a following amongst the WIS community, including TRF as evidenced by quite a few threads.

I had the opportunity to trade a piece that wasn't getting much wrist time and thankfully the Nomos AD was accommodating.

I had decided on the Metro, but wasn't sure which model. In the end, I chose the neomatik Nachtblau, with the automatic movement and midnight blue dial.

The automatic movement, dark dial and time only complication appealed to me.

I'm used to the heft and thickness of Rolex sports watches, so the thin, light, 35mm case took some getting used to. Thankfully my wrist is less than 7 inches, so the case doesn't feel too small. The Metro feels so dainty and elegant and is probably suitable as both a casual and dress watch. It serves as a nice counterpoint to my SubCs.

Unlike the vibrant blue shown in the press photos, the midnight blue dial is a very dark greyish blue. The hour and minute markers and seconds hand offer a nice contrast of colours to the dark dial.

Although the dial is quite dark, the rhodium plated hands have a mirror-like reflective quality which makes them legible in all but low light conditions.

The movement is so thin and is beautifully displayed through the sapphire caseback.

I also love the domed crystal, but wish it had an AR coating because it is so reflective which makes it difficult to read the time occasionally.

Overall, I'm very happy with my Nomos and can see why TRFers are also interested in this German brand which has achieved so much in its relatively short history. I look forward to seeing what they release at this year's Baselworld.

Thanks everyone for their kind words! It's been in the collection for a week now and I'm still enjoying the wrist time. We had a bit of sunshine yesterday afternoon (amongst all the grey skies) and it looks amazing when the dial catches direct sunlight.

The lack of lume and heft still takes some getting used to, but the simplicity and effectiveness of the design at the price point takes some beating.

Enjoy that beauty. I was a relatively early buyer of a NOMOS and have been thinking about getting a second. The problem is that they make so many lovely and fairly priced watches that I cannot actually decide on one. That one is pretty cool though.

Thank you! It's back on the wrist today. I was worried that the dial would be too dark and legibility may be an issue, but it hasn't proved an issue to date.

I think your problem has been compounded since Baselworld with the additional new Ahoi and Club models

Looks like there will also be no date Metro manual wind 38 mm models (without the power reserve) in both steel case back and sapphire case back (see the Toppers Jewellers YouTube Baselword 2017 video at "robattopper" - no affiliation). The steel back Metro 38 looks to be the same as the Hodinkee Metro limited edition (except it doesn't have the chronometer certification).

Next on my list is the Ahoi neomatik in Signalblau - the 36 mm should look good with the longer lugs on the Ahoi and I think the blue dial might be more "Smurf" than the 116619LB!! Hard to judge until I see it in real life in natural light.

Thanks! I have no issue with it being German made. I drive German cars, so I know how good German engineering is.

Glashutte is the home of some other top tier watch brands like A. Lange & Sohne and Glashutte Original, so Nomos is right up there but at a lower and more affordable price point.

I've yet to check its accuracy, but I've been happy with the finish of the watch and its inhouse movement to date.

Great! I drive and love mercedes cars, so I don't have a problem with german engineering, just curious about their work in watches. But that sounds good, I'll definitely look into getting one
