Icon20 A bit urgent! Please tell me if this is a good deal for a Pepsi GMT-II 16700?

Hi everyone!

I'm on a business trip at the moment in Japan. I was orignally set on buying a buying a 14060 2 line with a T dial, but I couldn't find any, instead I saw a 16700 Pepsi X serial with original box and papers, T dial as well. The store that sells it is Komehyo (www.komehyo.co.jp), they should be legit. I was told it is all original, but I am not very familar with GMTs, I took some pictures (sorry for the huge pictures, I posted it on my phone):

I just want to make sure since this would be my first Rolex if I do decide to buy it :D. The watch is priced at 694,260 Yen, or $6160 USD , do you think this is a good deal? I am leaving tomorrow afternoon, so if I want it I need to decide soon.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Is this in Tokyo? I don't know much about the 16700, bought a 16710 in tokyo. You can try to compare prices on Quark, Househikiroba, and Jack's Road online.

Remember 8% off prices for tax for foreigners. Good luck.

The band looks to be in great shape... offer 20% less and see if they take it?

For 6200, you can find a more modern 16710 with superluminova lume and sel end links. I would pass.

Love the fat font bezel. Looks good. If you like that one take it! Some can be had for a few dollars less but nothing like walking into a store and buying what you really want. Watch is in beautiful shape. I would buy it. These are in very high demand. Enjoy it.

I'm afraid this is gonna be a slippery slope for me haha, I'm sure one day I'll still pick up a 14060, such addiction

I really want a tritium dial, because I love the patina

SEL is nice though, would a 16710 bracelet fit the lugs on this one?

Just wondering if anyone could tell from the pictures if the hands are original tritium hands? or are they service replacement hands?

Thanks!

The store may be legit, but the watch may have parts that aren't. For example, previous owner may have allowed aftermarket crystal, insert or crown to be installed to save money. If it has a recent RSC service documented, then price is OK. Otherwise equivalent 16700's are hundreds less here with trusted sellers.

On the photo the color of the 24-hr. hand seems to match the 9 o'clock index.

Did you check the bracelet clasp code as "era-correct" for an X s/n watch? Should be P, Q, or R based on interweb lists.

I'd grab that piece in a heartbeat. Finding a16700 in that condition and complete with everything is very hard to come by these days.

Thanks! I will check tomorrow, including removing the bracelet to check the if the SN on the lugs matches the paperwork.

There is nothing stopping you from doing a search of TRF Classifieds for "16700" to see how much you'd be overpaying...and have some security against buying a GMT with potential aftermarket crystal, crown and insert (all virtually impossible for untrained to check in the shop).

I just looked more into it, 16710 vs 16700, I think I might want 16710 GMT-Master II Pepsi with a Tritium dial instead of the 16700 with the 3175 movement. If this was a GMT-Master II it would of been perfect..

That looks like a VERY nice, dare I say unpolished example. Probably the nicest 16700 I've seen here.

A lot of people actually prefer the quick set date over the jump hour hand functionality. That is an amazing looking 16700.

Decisions decisions haha, I have a few watches in rotation atm, so quick set date is nice to have, I also travel for work, jump hour is nice too...

I was surprised it came with full set as well, and the watch itself definitely seems to be in great shape.

Hmm...

please don't make a fool of yourself by offering 20% off when you are in japan.
it's a total insult to them and the things they are selling.
you either walk away or ask them what's the best price.

but if you are in bangkok or china, then it's a different story.

Conditions looks amazing. Thing about buying preowned is conditions, conditions, conditions...

My first was a 16700 as well but as time goes by, I realised I prefer the 16710 with the independent hour and 24 hour hand so that I can set 2 timezone without the need to keep turning my bezel.

But the condition of this 16700 example is amazing. If you can swing the price and ok with not having the independent hour and 24 hour hand, get it.

Really? With complete box and papers? I don't think so.
