Who do you recommend for Service? Rikki?
Hi everyone,
I have a 14060 submariner 1996 T serial, I need a service and a new authentic sapphire crystal. Do you think Rikki from www.timecareinc.com is very reliable? I hear from him a lot here in the forum. Does anyone know if he carries genuine crystals since mine needs to be replaced? I also want to keep my original hands since its a tritium dial and hands and want to keep it original. RSC in Dallas quoted me $2,080 for service and worn out parts replacement since they consider it a vintage watch, and to service vintage watches costs $2,080 to start with, and $135 to replace crystal. this is too much money for me, I will avoid RSC in Dallas for now. Please give me some advice. Thanks for all the help . |

sheeesh! that quotation is HIGH.
I thought 600 for a 88 DateJust was alot but i guess not. Goodluck in searching for the optimal price/quality option.

Rikki only carries OEM Rolex parts and he is highly recommended. I have used him and will only use him for all my watches. He also regulates a movement to the highest level of accuracy.

Used Rik once for an SD repair, and was 100% satisfied with the communication, cost, and quality.

There have been a few horror stories about original parts from vintage watches being replaced or damaged by RSC. Check around. That quote from Dallas does seem very high.

I concur on this...

Price was fair (compared to RSC or local watchmakers), turnaround time was really good, 4 wks almost to the day, and it came back looking great and running at +.25 sec/day. Will send him my DJ for same this coming summer... |

I don't know where you went at Dallas RSC, but a 1996 isn't even close to "vintage" and it's hard to imagine that an RSC would think so either.
I'm pretty sure that they have 20 year old watches coming in every day and don't start their charges at 2,000 bucks.

Rikki has always been good to me. Price is right and you can't beat the turn around time.

I can't vouch for Rikki but Bob and Philip Ridley at Watchmakers international did a good job on my 1987 Rolex 16013 Datejust. Full service, new crown stem and plastic glass with a light polish came to a little over $800. They did what I asked and the watch came back running around +2 to -2 per day depending on how I rest it at night so I can pretty much keep it at 0. Total time was 4 weeks.

I've sent a few watches to Rik and he's been a joy to work with in my experience. Good guy, excellent work, fair prices.
