Black Bay 36 grows to 41!
As someone that's been umming and erring over the Black Bay 36, the release of the Black Bay 41 is just what I needed.
My current watches are 40-43mm and trying on 36mm models.... argh... I just couldn't help but feel I had on a woman's watch. 38 or 40mm would have been fine, but 41 is right in my wheel house. It's practically the same price as the BB36 too. I'm very glad it's still ETA as an entry level watch like this should be easier/cheaper to service than something like the Pelagos. I'm also glad that it still is date-free. It's simplicity and clarity are what drew me to the 36 in the first place. I much prefer that leather option too now, far nicer colour for me than the previous ones, and being 41mm it should be far easier to find aftermarket straps for than the 19mm of the BB36. Still not hot on that Camo Nato tho. I hoped that would have changed. Anyone else picking one of these up? |

I feel exactly the same as you on this one. Loved the 36mm but just felt it was too small. Now with the 41mm it should be perfect. Extremely torn between bracelet and strap though.

I really wish that they would be a little more open to the reality that people who buy Tudor, are going to want to personalise their purchase with a variety of straps.
I get that they want to present a certain "look" for each of their ranges, but the inclusion of a "Nato" strap with these at least suggests that they understand how a lot of collectors like to wear their watches? Surely it would only make them more money by offering a range of leather and a fabric straps on both buckle and deployant to purchase separately? If I want a bright yellow alligator strap, or a striped Nato, why can't their offer it? I'd love to see that exact leather strap option in a deep blue leather. I was quite amused to see that their instructions state that straps can ONLY be changed by a Tudor AD tho lol |

I bought the 36 mm for my girlfriend. From time to time I install it on my wrist, way to small for me. Bringing it in 41 is a smart move from Tudor.

I think the 36 and 41 will be a kind of his and her watch purchase. I think it looks great but agree with RustyRoses - I do not get that Camo strap.

The Ranger was on my list but the 41 seems to be the most versatile of the BBs for everyday wear. I'd almost equate this to the old AT Railmasters from the 00's. I'm really on the fence of selling off my BBN ETA and getting this in place of it.

There's no reason why you can't have a bright yellow croc strap (although I'd advise against it on fashion grounds ) |

I think it's a good looking watch and perfect at 41mm.
I get what you are saying about differing straps should be offered by Tudor. I own a Bremont MBii which is a very similar style watch and Bremont offer a multitude of different straps and supply the watch with two straps and a tool to remove them. They obviously understand the market and actually got me into changing things around as before that it never really crossed my mind to change a strap tbh. |

Anyone know what the buckle is on the other side of that picture? Is it a buckle like on the BB leather straps?

I have seen the 36mm version in a store. While 36 mm works for Rolex DJ, OP and Exp, the Tudor BB looks smaller to my eyes. In particular on a leather strap I find it really small. On the bracelet it looks a bit better, but still.
I fear that 41 mm is much too big. I tried the Ranger a while ago, which is also 41 mm, and found that it had too much glass surface and too little bezel surrounding it. To my eyes it has visual cues of a wall clock. That need not be the case for the BB 41, as it will probably have different relative proportions, but it will be big. That is probably what the current market (still) desires, instead of a timeless classic. 38 or 39 mm would be perfect for this type of watch (and for the Ranger). Just like the current Exp, or the Railmaster that Omega just presented at Baselworld. The Exp is not too small, not too big, but it does have a lot of wrist presence. Having said that, all of this is a matter of personal taste of course.. |

I totally get the point about them not making the strap, but if I can get 10x trim options on a BMW why can't I on my watch?

I am going to have to see this in store, but so far I'm intrigued. Like others have mentioned I thought the BB36 wore a tad smaller than the 36mm Rolex counterparts. The BB36 wore more like a 34mm Rolex, imo. So if this BB41 wears and looks more like the OP39 on the wrist, that's a heck of a sweet spot imo. So definitely looking forward to trying this on at an AD.

Here's a comparison from Hodinkee. I gotta say, I wish they had kept the proportions on the dial identical and just sized everything up. I feel that the hands on the 41 are a little short now?

Huge spacer in that 41 mm case. The 36 looks nicer IMO although the color of the strap is less successful.

Nearly bought the 36mm before I stumbled on my 39mm Explorer. Had this been available I probably would've stopped looking and bought it on the spot. Pretty perfect IMO, especially at that price.

The Black Bay has more iterations than the typical Omega lineup!

I love my BB36.
It should be a nice choice for those who like larger watches.

Anyone know if the leather strap from the original Black Bay Blue will fit on this new 41mm model?

I prefer the crown on the new 41mm version, always felt the 36mm crown looked odd!

I want to see them side by side. I've been meaning to check out the BB36. I have heard it wears small, but I have 36mm dressier watches, which I thought wore just about perfect on my small wrist. The normal BB was at the upper end of what I feel like I can wear, so am a little concerned about a 41mm version, but if it wear small, it might be perfect.

I bet it will. Likely 22mm lugs from the looks of it side by side with the 36. I would buy it with the bracelet as there is not that much price differences and I think that nicer leather is easily attainable for $100 if you don't mind a pin and buckle. The Tudor clasp is pricey. I don't mind the camp. I would gladly take a Ranger one off of someone's hands at the right price. For what strap options would cost from Tudor I just think better can be done with Hirsch or even some of the bespoke strap makers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
