Sub date AD discounts

If I were to go to an AD tomorrow, with cash in hand, what type of a discount might I get on a 116610LN?

I want to know everyone's opinion based on today's market, not personal experience from years ago as things have changed. Also, I live in Toronto, Canada if that helps as I know AD discounts can vary based on location.

Im just speculating that 20% at a Canadian AD is a stretch. A friend and I purchased SS sport models (an SD4K and an Explorer) from a Calgary AD at about 15% discount, but that was 2+years ago. I suppose it wont hurt to make an offer at 20% discount, and see what they say. I would decline at anything less than 10%, but your threshold to buy may differ of course. Good luck with it!

Depends on the location, their stock level, recent sales, local demand, the phase of the moon, and the mood of the owner that day.

Yea I figured that 20% would be a stretch on SS model. The sub date retails for $9750 CAD these days and our tax in Ontario is 13%...which is no joke. I would like to see 15% off before tax which would take the after tax price to about $ 9350. The most I will pay is just tax off (which is better than a 10% discount here) but I'm prepared to shop around and walk out on an AD who doesn't want to work with me.

No discounts on all popular ss sports models such as Sub, GMT masters II, Daytona
YM, EX II will be possible for some discounts.
I've been to four countries and hear the exact same things from all ADs I went to.

If you haggle hard and really know what you are doing you can expect to get up to 0% discount.

Remember not everyone is in the UK.
Here in the US, the Sub date is readily available and my AD openly offers anyone who walks in a small discount on this and many other watches

There are so many variables that it is not worth voting. Every AD is going to be different, every sales guy is different, every country is different. One AD may have 8 in their safe and the next has one.

I paid in cash but did not receive a discount and had to pay tax. I purchased mine from the Rolex Boutique on 5th avenue and 53rd street. I asked if I could receive a factory fresh one from their latest shipment that had not been on the floor yet and they obliged.

personally if it was me and i had the cash in hand and didn't get ANY discount i'd just put the cash away and pay with my credit card as the CC merchant fees are about 3% which eats into their profit margin. Especially if using AMEX which have the highest merchant fees. They should at a minimum discount the amount they have to pay to process a CC for using cash.

Truthfully after getting my second piece from DavidSW and seeing how painless that was, I don't think I'll be going back to any AD, unless it is for a DaytonaC, or some other piece where the price difference is marginal.

This is the answer. As others have said...if you don't get the price you want, shop around. Many options for a common watch

My experience, as a repeat purchase from an AD, was discount of 6.25% - the equivalent of the state income tax.

YMMV.

Bruh I am in the U.K. and got 10 percent off my Sub-C date. I'm just saying you are lucky to get a bean off this piece pretty much wherever in the world the AD is.

If CC fees are 3%, why would an AD not discount 3% for cash? Principle?

I think I'll start my offer at 20% off (which I know I won't get) but as I've said the worst I'd like to do is tax off. At least then the salesman will be 'anchored' at my initial offer. Worth a try at least. And yes shopping around is something I'm prepared to do.

Why would any dealer, anywhere....need to discount the SS Rolex Submariner?

Just leaving money on the table...

The full price, is the fair price on this model.

Totally... its not possible unless you bring other equations with the AD(like the personal connections etc). Why would they need to sell at 20% and SubC Date is not a slow mover! IMPOSSIBLE IMHO!!!

If an AD in ANY country needs to take 20% off an SS Sub to sell it, they shouldn't be an AD.

Well then you gave awful advice. What, are you special? You're entitled to a discount but bye isn't? Weird

10% in the UK is a tall order , not many about and we've just had the 10% rise .

Don't trust, sorry. Unless your in relations with AD. No point for any AD to throw away money to sell the watch which they can't keep in stock!

I am a long term customer of an AD and have spent significant sums there. Recently bought a BLNR at list. The manager would have given me a discount if possible. I did get a next day delivery. I looked at a Sub Date and, again, no discount. These watches sell quickly and the ADs just don't have to budge on price. I'm not saying no AD discounts sports watches, just not in my experience. I looked at trading a DayDate in on a newer model. I was offered a discount in the form of a very generous trade value.
