Can AD's sell Rolex's with the papers open.

I am sure this may have been asked before, but I can't find a reference to it. Perhaps someone could answer this.

If I go in to purchase a Rolex and request that the papers be left open, can the AD do that?

If not, how is it I see Rolex watches for sale aftermarket with the papers open?

Thanks!

Richard

"Can"? Most "will" not.
We have heard of an isolated case now and then. Most "assume" you actually "want" the watch so they peel plastic and go through the drill of vaildating your purchase. I don't buy into the "Big Brother" Rolex "Dr Evil" database and tracking system where every watch is controlled and very sale audited...but that's just me. No doubt, many chains have internal controls though that may involve a copy of the filled out paperwork. I mean that's what's supposed to happen right?

As for why you see them in the wild, ever hear of the grey market? Dealers not eager to advertise it's their stock in Furman, etc. Of course, some buyers balk at filled out papers. Doesn't really matter as a non-AD can't do anyting to get you RSC warranty service anyway. Of course, this is my favorite and yet to be refuted point to prove Rolex doesn't know where their watches are to a high degree of precision. All this mammoth company would have to do is buy a few watches from Furman and Swiss Luxury, use their "tracking system" to discover what dealer passed them off and take away their dealership. Ever hear of that happenning?

There are some that do, bit they are not supposed to. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask, but most will insist on filling it in.

Not in this part of the world.....but in certain Asian countries it would be possible.

Yes, mine were left open when I purchased my Daytona. I didn't ask they just left them open.

I have seen examples of both.

I would imagine that if you asked them to leave them open, they would oblige you, especially if you told them to keep their watch if they didn't make you happy.

I've never had one ask... My local AD has always filled them out on the spot... I do have one bought out-of-country that just has the date sold stamp and the Dealers imprint.

When they called on the Daytona, the papers were filled out when I arrived to pick it up..
All I had to say was "Put it on my account and I'll pick it up within the hour."

Yes they can. I bought my 16610 with open papers, the Daytona papers were filled in when I bought it.

Some leave them open because if you have a warranty problem and it's getting close to the end, they will put a date on there that is later than actually purchased.

As far as warranty and Rolex keeping track of them, Rolex wants nothing as proof of appropriate sales, nor do they keep track of the watches given to an AD in the way of warranty's being sent back in. All they know is that the serial number is accurate if they ever happen to come across it one day and they know it was issued to NY then the AD. Thats it! All they want are reciepts of sale.

AD's have at least filled in or stamped the dealer name and date on every Rolex that I have purchased. Name and address were optional.

Asked to have mine left open, and was told that is o.k, but if warranty is needed then I would be required to fill in my name, to match the sales receipt.

What is the point of having them not filled in?

What is the point of having them not filled in? If the dealer does not register the watch with Rolex then the warranty is not going to be in effect. Yoou can not start the warranty period by simply entering a purchase date randomly on the paperwork.

Hmmm, when bought my LV pre-owned my AD just whited out all of the previous owner's info on the paperwork and left it blank. They also gave me an appraisal rather than a receipt of purchase. Is this standard practice?

My AD told me they have seen open papers from European purchases but in US they are required to fill out the warranty card per their agreement with Rolex USA.
