Setting the Time on a New Sub

A friend just purchased a new submariner date. It was about 5 minutes fast. Got the crown unscrewed and got the dated changed very easy when the crown was pulled all the way out. But, we could not get the time changed or just could not find the appropriate setting with the crown. Push it in too far, and it begins to screw down tight. Any tricks in getting the time set on one of these new subs? Seems like it should be very easy, but neither of us had any luck.

All serious responses appreciated.

Screw the crown counterclockwise until it pops out. I screw it a little more and then pull it. The second hand should stop. Then you can set the time by moving the crown clockwise.

There are a lot of guys on the forum who have forgotten more than I know, but I'll take a stab at this since my SS Sub Date is only about 9 months old. I had the same issue at first. When gently pulling the crown out to adjust the time twist it slightly. If this doesn't work push the crown back in and try once more with twisting if required.

Its not easy to do. I just acquired a BNIB 16610, which I recently set for the first time. It took me a few tries to get to the time change setting. I was initially fearful of pulling it too hard and therefore did not pull it out far enough. Finally, I yanked it with all my might--frightened myself thinking I'd pull the crown from the case--but all was okay and I reset the time.

Are you serious?? Just unscrew the crow then gentle pull out the crown, you will feel 2 'clicks', the first will set the date, the second allows you to set the time (also second hand stops), push the crown back in, screw it in and all set and done.

No. I agree with MacRam Queens.
My 16610 was the same and only after wearing it for a few months and pulling on it rather frequently before it's easy to get the second click to stop the second hand and adjust time.
It may need to be broken in in few or just not assembled perfectly. But's it's now working perfectly.
All my other watches did not have the same issue except the GMT-II.

WJGESQ, when you screw the crown back in, don't over-tighten it. Just stop when you feel some resistance.

Cheers
