A couple of questions re: Rolex USA!!
Hi guys,
Can you help me out with these 2 questions please? 1. Is Rolex USA a separate entity altogether or do they still have to answer to the big brass in Rolex, Geneva? 2. Did Rolex USA make their own decision with the 1st October price hikes.....or did they have to take permission from Rolex Geneva before doing so? Thanks in advance - JJ

I am coming late to the news of the October 1st price increase. Would someone be so kind as to confirm:
1) The amount of the increase? 2) Is this just for U.S. markets? (I gather some other markets have already had their price increase in the last 60 days.) 3) Anyone have a scan of the new price list? Many thanks. Mark |

It is my understanding that Rolex USA is under the watchful eye of the parent Co in Geneva. This was quite evident in the early 90s when Rolex Geneva told Rolex USA to stop the deep discounts with dealers and pull the line from ADs who are selling to Gray dealers..... alot of Ads lost the Rolex line.
Rolex Geneva even went as far as telling Rolex USA that if they did not clean up ther act they would pull the entire line in the US. At that time (early 90s) loosing the USA market was uninportant to Rolex Geneva. All must have went well because Rolex USA is alive and doing well!

I posted in a thread a while back and asked what it was that Rolex USA actually does. No answer. Maybe someone will come forward now. Rolex USA doesn't manufacture watches. What do they do?

I worked many years for a German company's wholly owned US subsidiary. All the big decisions came from Germany and I imagine this is the same with Rolex. There may some final assembly at Rolex USA, ie installation of bracelets and other minor items as import tariffs are usually lower on components than completed product. I've got to believe that the increases come from the mothership as European prices went up also from my understanding.

They Recieve new watches, and distribute them to dealers in the US, service watches, in charge of US advertizing, have a management team of regional managers, and carry out Rolex Genevas management rules and regulations.

I would say that Rolex USA is under strict guidelines from Geneva. Little or no autonomy exits in the current US management structure.

The only good thing I can say about Rolex-USA is that they SUCK, period. I'll keep all the other comments to myself otherwise risk being banned.

James Dowling may have said it best describing RUSA as a quasi-independent organization.

Rolex USA, like all other companies involved in international business--especially those companies whose manifacturing factilities are abroad (from the USA)--have to make currency adjustments in order just to sell their products and attain the same profit margins as they are used to, given the downturn of the US currency. Why should we expect them to make less money? Did they do something wrong?
