New datejust 41 noise!

Hello, three days ago I got a new datejust 41 and I love it to bits, it has so far been perfectly accurate, but just a bit concerned I can hear a noise up close to my ear if I lightly shake it, it sounds like the rotor, I also have a gmt 2 which I know has a different movement but is perfectly silent, I understand the 3235 caliber in the datejust has bearings in rotor and hoping the noise is nothing to worry about. Hope someone who has the same watch, or knows can shed some light! Thanks for any replies cheers!

My DJ41 rotor is also noisy and seems a lot louder than the rotor in my SubC. Apparently it's to do with the rotor bearings on the DJ41 3235 movement being ball as opposed to sleeve on the older movement.

Simply answer don't shake your watch close to your ear problem solved. But movements like the 32 series and the cal 4130 in the Daytona use a ball bearing rotor and these will sound more noisey than the sleeve bearing rotors in the 31 series movement.

Edit: I went to a very very quiet place and shook it. Yes you hear a faint rotor spin for a brief second. But that’s normal.

It seems as though the majority of DJ41 3235 movements are reported as noisy due to the new rotor ball bearing. As ball bearings are noisier than sleeve bearings I'm intrigued as to why some DJ41 owners claim they can't hear the rotor which mechanically can't be the case with a ball bearing unless in these cases there's a sleeve bearing fitted......

Mine does it. It's a slight whirr. My patek Aquanaut used to do the same thing... I would rather have some noise on ball bearings as I believe that makes for a stronger movement.

I have a new DJ41, and it makes a very slight whirr. But nothing rattle-y.

It sounds great to me, after wearing cheap automatic watches forever.

My ETA and Sellita movements are louder. I can hear my DJ41 only if I hold it fairly close to the ear and try to spin it.

Edit: gratuitous pic

I read this thread before I got my DJ41 last weekend as unfortunately it would have concerned me.

I have tried three different DJ41’s and they all make the whirring sound - normal.

I have both the DJ 41 and the GMT and it’s the same with me - nothing to worry about

I have a Longines Admiral GMT with a ball raced rotor.

It’s a big watch and once that counter weight gets going you really hear it, plus the inertia in the thing almost wobbles the end of your arm when it’s spinning.

All my Rolex however are silent. DJ2’ Gmt’s, even the Explorer 2 42 mm...totally silent, so noise with rotor spin is mostly associated with a ball raced rotor or a worn shaft or jewel bearing on a non ball raced.

If I were you go to an AD and grab one and shake it. That's the only thing that can reassure you if its normal or not.

Yep, that’s because your Rolexes don’t have the 3235 movement in them...

Like I said in my previous post - I grabbed a bunch of them. They all have the same whirring sound when you shake them close to your ear - entirely different noise to other Rolexes although clearly normal for this movement.

I will chime in on this thread to confirm the 3235 has a rotor noise.

Just got a new DJ4 and I hear the whirl. It's a normal sound for the 3235 mvmt.

New datejust 41 noise!

Apparently, Rolex are carrying out a recall on certain DJ41’s where this noise is present. Seemingly there was a faulty batch...

Joke.

It’s entirely normal - they all do it.

It’s the rotor, new, but it doesn’t sing like an Omega, I will take the 70 hours.
Back in the day, the rule was, if you could hear it spin, not a Rolex, not so, anymore.
