Sunday Comparison: Rolex v Tudor, the hats

We all know Hans Wildorf established Tudor to bring his engineering excellence to more people through a lower priced line. The benefits of one vs. the other have been debated many times, but has anyone compared the hats?

I recently acquired both the Tudor cap and the oft coveted Rolex version. The risk of the Rolex cap is you cannot wear it in public without looking like a bit of a tool, but it would be great for mowing the lawn and such. The Tudor, in spite of its striking color scheme is actually lower profile as no one will probably recognize it. Around here it could be fishing gear or farm equipment.

Enough babbling, let's look at pictures. I'm not able to get the pics where I want them due to posting on an iPad so you will have to scroll down.

Front view, traditional colors and logos:

Rear view, note the glide lock like adjuster on the Rolex. The Tudor makes due with serviceable but pedestrian hook and loop.

Interior view. The Rolex cap is lined, in keeping with its higher end positioning.
More comfortable as it shields your forehead from the embroidery but perhaps warmer due to the 2 layer construction.

Materials: the Rolex is microfiber and has care instructions, the Tudor is nylon and you're on your own for washing. But it das a logo and the web address.

The verdict: both nice hats. The Rolex version has the superior glide lock and materials but the Tudor is all around more wearable in public. It avoids the questions and the deflection answers "I can't afford a Rolex, just needed a hat"

Where is the Tudor hat made? The Rolex is obvious.
Also, it would seem that one would need a ....collection...how about a "Pepsi" colored hat, or a "Bluesy"
Perhaps even trimmed in gold or white gold and silver...maybe with a leather bill or a NATO bill!

Great review, but I would not wear either hat outside. It would be like wearing a Tee Shirt with Gucci printed across it.

I only have the Tudor (going to have to ask my AD why she still hasn't gotten me Rolex one), but can say they the Tudor hat is well made, nice material, extremely comfortable , and pretty sure most people have no idea what Tudor is so I don't mind wearing it out

The only green clothing that looks good is the Masters green jacket... so I would go with the Tudor cap.

One might also ask...Would you rather have 2 new Tudor hats or 1 new Rolex hat.
There is also the pre-owned market to consider as well.

Yes, good points. Is it safe to buy your hat on eBay? Are there fakes in the secondary market?

And maybe there is an "entry level" visor? With no top it might be called the Air-King?

This forum is on fire today! Love the humor.

In reality, we got "Rolex" chocolates from our AD last December and wouldn't serve them to anyone other than a Rolex/ALS wearing buddy, so I can't imagine wearing a Rolex hat. I wouldn't even wear a BMW hat, lol.

I do think they are understated and nice looking.

I have the Tudor hat and like it. Wear this one the most often.

It's for real people, of which I am one.

And the clasp is every bit as good as the Rolex glidelock.

And it has a red racing stripe on the brim.

I'd choose the Tudor for the color(or lack of). Then again, I'm not really the hat type.

I concur, but around here people would think it's a new bass boat.

Oh sure, bring other brands into it. Pretty soon someone will say that Rolex is not haute hatology or a member of the chapeau trinity.

I like the stripe, but do you think it's just a copy of the Tudor?

Yes. It is a homage to the Tudor hat. Not a clone or counterfeit.

I love my Glashutte and JLC hats more than any others. They fly under the radar except to those who know, are simple, and work best with my color scheme.

To know the future is to be trapped by it

Yes, but you have to send it to Geneva to adjust the size.

You need that because your head gets bigger when you put it on
