Ideas For Case Back?
I want to have the case back of my Rolex engraved, I am going to pass this on to my son. What should I have engraved? His initials? My initials? His name? Please help me figure this out.

Maybe get another case back and have that engraved keeping the original untouched. Im sure he wouldn't want to sell, but engraving it will make it less desirable. That's my thoughts anyway.

Case backs are a dime a dozen if you ever need to revert back. Only way I'd consider it a bad idea if it was a vintage watch. Anything modern do what you would like. Initials would be fine imho.

Pretty personal decision, imho. I wouldn't be seeking validation from an Internet forum for something like that.

If only that were true. I posted a WTB ad here for over a month and couldn't source a new Rolex caseback. I was trying to make my 116600 thinner with a 114060 or 116710 caseback.

I initially thought about engraving the case back on my Submariner, that will eventually be my sons - but decided against it. What I did instead was write a note, dated on the day after he was born letting him know what this watch means to me - and that I want him to have this watch at a accomplishment of his, that we'll both share enormous pride at.
I put some of the feelings I had there about when he was born, and what he means to me as well - but I intentionally left it open ended so he can know what a moment of happiness he's caused me. The note will be dated some 20 years after it's written, and I hope he can appreciate that. |

I'll leave this here in case you want to take inspiration from arnuad and his voutilainen.

If you must...your initials would be a nice gift to him, but buy a caseback and engrave that one. Keep your original caseback UN-mollested.

initials are fine.
they can be buffed out later. whoever said to buy a 2nd caseback and use that and keep the original is a stretch stretch stretch for how to handle this. who'd want to put a different case back on and mess with that vs. just scratching 3 initials? lol come on now. |

It's a great idea, go for it! My 1st son was born last October and I purchased my first Rolex shortly after. I decided to purchase it as a memory of his birth, knowing I would pass it on to him one day, and hopefully he could pass it on to his son too. We had it engraved with his full name in cursive lettering, followed with his birth date 10.04.2016. It looks gorgeous and I love showing the engraving to those who ask about the watch, adds to the overall appeal of having a luxury timepiece. I highly recommend it, especially if you plan to pass it down.

One of the benefits of the clean, unadorned Rolex case back. Easy to personalize. Rolex watches make fantastic family heirlooms.
