They shall do this again!
"In 1926, Hans Wilsdorf came up with a brilliant idea to have authorized Rolex dealers display the waterproof Rolex Oysters watches, in fish-tanks, in their windows–with real fish swimming around the watch!!! This of course gained the fascination of many passer-bys."

To be honest, it's probably lost some of it's impact over 91 years

This actually would grab my attention pretty quick walking by lol. Might take away from some of the "prestige" and "luxury" image they sell these days versus the tool watch days.

Wilsdorf said in his autobiography that it was 1927, the same year that ADs first appeared (in England). There was also a print ad featuring the goldfish bowl: www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=358596

Some years back, I remember there was some brand that sold their watches in a little water-filled box.
I'm not certain, but I think Walmart carried that brand. The thing is that Rolex has kept up with the times. In the old days, a watch that could be displayed in water was spectacular. Rolex has since sought to demonstrate water resistance in more compelling ways, such as the bathyscaphe Trieste and the Deep Sea Challenge.

Seiko did the same sort of thing with the display of the Sport 100.
