Just had to do it and glad I did

First actual post so please indulge me.

Having loved watches since I was 16 and supposed to inherit from my Grandfather his Rolex - at the age of 45 I finally went and bought the Sub date. I bought it on May 11th and was able to show and talk with my dad about it on the 12th. You see he was quite upset that his brother took the rolex that I was supposed to get and He too had always wanted a Rolex life just never seemed right for him to purchase one. He was thrilled with my purchase and somehow I felt a little better for the way we were able to talk about it and just enjoy a great conversation about the past and future and life in general. My wife questioned my timing of course but I just told her I felt like it was the right time to buy. Well, my Dad passed away on May 15th. Its been terribly difficult time since then but I do feel an even more special bond to this watch because I know it was one of the last things that my Dad and I truly enjoyed together. Anyway, I suppose maybe this post is therapeutic for me in a way so thanks for reading.

Excellent memory with your Dad that you'll be reminded of every time you check the time. Good stuff.

I have several friends who had poor or worse relationships with their fathers and lost them with the fences unmended. It sounds like you had a great relationship with your dad and that is to be treasured forever. The watch will bring warm memories of that last chat forever. Hang onto it.

I know the feeling. I lost my Dad about 18 months ago and we had a pretty strong bond over watches. Glad you were able to have a great conversation with him before he passed.
