Torn between Ex2 Polar (white) and DJ2 for next purchase

Hi all.

I've fell into the rabbit hole and looking to round out my collection (it is a small collection but for me I think 1 more suffice).

I am currently debating between the Ex2 Polar white dial or the DJ2 or DJ41 White Stick Dial as my final purchase. Very different pieces I know.

I love the Ex2 since its more under the radar and I can take it with me when I travel. It has the GMT function which is useful and not many people own it.

The other option was a DJ2 or DJ41 white stick dial. I love the elegance of this piece. I dont get dressed up often though so not sure having something so formal would be worn as much but maybe it is worth having something more simple and formal. Also it is a beautiful piece.

I also considered a Seiko Hi-Beat/Spring Drive but think that may be too formal for my taste.

I figured since I have a lot of black dial pieces a white dial would be a perfect addition. I have a 7.25" wrist.

Currently in my collection I have:

Sub 16610 (which i wear for more formal occasions)
Omega Speedy
Seiko SKX009
Swiss Legend Chrono on rubber strap (before I started collecting but perfect as a beater)

Not really interested in a GMT (batman, Coke, pepsi) They are too flashy with the ceramic bezel.

Would love any advice or people who were in a similar situation.

Thanks in advance.

You won't go wrong with either, but with your collection, I'd lean towards the DJ since you have primarily professional bezels. A plain or fluted bezel gives a watch a completely different feel, IMO.

I don't really understand the Explorer II love for travel.

I travel constantly across continents and in rougher areas (currently in Medellin).

I have a BLNR, and in nearly all places no one notices it. If I am going somewhere where I'm worried, I wear my Seiko Shogun.

The Exp 2 is a cool watch, and I had one for a while (it was my first rolex), but ultimately I got bored of it. The rotating Bezel on the GMT is the cat's ass and I use it all the time.

YMMV.

Thanks for the replies so far all.

Is it weird to have 3 similar style watches? That was part of the reason I was considering the DJ.

I think a smooth bezel, Oyster bracelet Datejust 41 will be the most versatile piece, but will replace your Submariner as your more formal piece (as it should). The Explorer II is the most sport of all the Rolex models. Your collection is pretty sport heavy. I own both the Explorer II white dial and just acquired the Datejust 41 with a rhodium dial. I love both very much but based on what you're telling me, a more versatile but formal piece is more appropriate here. I'd go with the Datejust 41 if the GMT function of the Explorer II is not a "must-have."

I'll vote DJ (either 41 or 2). If you opt for a smooth bezel, it has less flash, and is quite the all rounder IMO

Agree with this 100%.....you already have the professional bezels, and the DJ's can be dressed up or down, especially with the smooth bezel.

I'd go with the Datejust in white. It's a very versatile piece. If you need a GMT for travel, add an Orient or other lower cost GMT watch. You'll be less afraid to travel with it.
The DJ is a classic timepiece

Considering your collection and what you say...

Datejust 41 or perhaps even better (to keep the sportier style that you like and easy to dress up if needed) Datejust II.

Ex2 polar is much less easier to dress up...if/when needed. Not "simple and formal"...Pure Sport.

Obviously, whatever you decide, you'll end up with a gorgeous timepiece for sure

In this case I would say DJ. It is extremely versatile, with the smooth bezel it will be sporty yet dressy.

EXPII is a really tough one to beat IMHO...whatever color you choose

I tried to get rid of mine when I acquired a BLNR and can't...I love this one just as much if not more so.

Definitely Explorer II. I have the one you are considering assuming you are considering the older 40mm style. Have owned it for 14 yrs. It is a very versatile watch that you can dress up or down and looks good on bracelet, natos or leather straps.

I used to wear suits to work regularly and always had it on the bracelet. I could wear it during the week and also on the weekend in shorts.

Now that I work in a more casual environment, I often have it on a nato or leather strap.

I also find the GMT function useful. For instance if I work regularly with people in London, I can set the red hand to London time. It is a very under-valued watch IMHO. You get a lot of watch for your $.
