Trading up from a DaytonaC to a WG DaytonaC... yay or nay?
So this is purely a hypothetical scenario at the moment.
I've been obsessing over pics of the SS DaytonaC white dial and the Baselworld 2017 white gold DaytonaC because that's the only place most people will realistically be able to see them right now. I am loving the look of the WG's silver dial (particularly the filled-in subdials) and from all your posts about BW Introduction parties, I'm feeling the WG is the more special one. So the question is: How many of you would opt for the WG if it weren't that much more expensive than the SS? Assuming in two years, Rolex still keeps tight control over the SS DaytonaC and is still floating around $16k net and the hype for the WG Daytona drops down in the future to around the same price as the current Everose DaytonaC on leather ($18k), would you get the WG instead? Yes, it's on a rubber strap but just look at that dial!! |

If I could have only one of the two...id keep the 116500 SS
Don't get me wrong, that WG is a stunner that's also on my list.

Thinking about doing that very thing...there's a few stars and planets that will need to line up, though.

I like the stainless steel. It's just too classic for this reference.

I have the ss 116500 white dial and tried on the rose gold Daytona on an oyster bracelet the other day. While I like RG in photos, it didn't suit me IRL. Now the platona, whoa nelly--that's a different story

I recall a poll sort of recently which compared these two.
I voted for the WG, as I love a good rubber strap and don't find the missing bracelet to be a huge drawback. |

To me the ss Daytona is much more beautiful. Same is valid for pretty much every pm version of the ss model. IMHO of course.

The only thing that has me levitating towards the WG is the dial. The filled-in subdials give it a more vintage look.

The white gold is beautiful but I would still have to go with the stainless version!

If you change Daytona's then you need to change your TRF name also

The WG/Rubber DaytonaC is certainly a nice variation, but I would vote for the SS/White DaytonaC as it is pretty sharp and sporty looking and the SS braclet works better with the whole package. But let your own eyes & heart guide you as to what makes you happy, no right/wrong answers. Good luck & Cheers!

I'd keep the SS, but would be awesome if Rolex sold SS endlinks and the oysterflex strap

That move is in a complete different direction. If a PM on a strap is where you want to go, check out the Patek 5980 or AP RO RG. Or get a Daytona on strap non ceramic they are way less then 18k right now

I'll concede that the WG looks better but the safe money is on the SS
