To Sky Dweller or not. (Lots of pics to help you help me)

My wedding is coming up and I'm getting a watch. I just sold a 41mm DD2 rose gold with diamond hours and my two tone Sub. Current watch is a 41mm DD2 Yellow gold with diamond hours. Annnnd here is my first world problem:

Is the Chocoloate/rose/on strap Sky Dweller a dressy enough watch? I've loved this watch for a long time and I can get an absolute KILLER deal on it. I mean really really good price. I've also recently seen them on RubberB bands and wow. So if you want to rock one on a boat, it's not a problem.

The competition:

The new Royal Oak Chrono on strap (either the blue or brown).

I wore them side by side in a store and the SD simply stole the show. Give me your thoughts. To SD or not. That is the question.

I'll also post a pic of the SD on the rubber straps. The WG on the black and red, wowww!

Skydweller all rose gold. That is what I would get if Money were no issue.

I think the SD is plenty dressy. Personally, I don't care for the rubber strap on it, but that's personal preference. The beauty of straps is their ability to be changed.

As for the AP, it's a gorgeous watch, but serves somewhat of a different purpose with its complication. So, I'd say it depends on what you're aiming to do with the watch.

My personal preference of the two: SD on leather.

Then again, you're asking Rolex owners for their preference. 😜

Good luck with your choice! Both are beautiful.

I like that RG AP Chrono on a strap and how about wait for the SS Skydweller.
So maybe both if you have patience...
Personally with SS SD coming soon, I would pass on the WG and certainly not with a rubber strap.

I would get both an AP but a 15400 or 15300 in steel and then the SD on strap - it is just too heavy to get it in full gold bracelet

Yes, on strap I prefer the AP ROC, better balanced.

I'm biased and believe the SkyD is the nicest watch Rolex offers; I agree with other about the rose on the bracelet!!!

Not fond of the industrial design of the APs either.

SD in any flavor would be my pick. The rose gold in particular is awesome.

Those watches are a shade loud for a wedding. Why not go for the traditional slim gold watch with a black leather strap. The attention is supposed to go onto the bride, not the Groom.

Regards

The RG SD is beauuuutttiiffuullll! No doubt my pic, the AP in comparison is hideous just imo. I have to agree that the choc face SD on the leather strap is also stunning.

For the record I'm a big AP Royal Oak fan but only in SS, the precious metals make them look too steampunk for me, Uboat esque in appearance at first glance.

If you're really looking for a dress watch, these don't qualify. They are much too large and sporty. Dress watches are understated and more elegant. Think cellini. And I may be an outlier here, but chocolate belongs in your mouth, not on a watch dial.

Having said that, if the watch stirs you, then get it because you love it. But it's not a dress watch.

Full bracelet i prefer AP to the SD on a bracelet and on a strap. Both on straps, i think the SD is the winner between the two.

All awesome watches, would love to own any of them, the chocolate brown SD on strap is my first pick. Can't go wrong with any of them.

Anything yellow gold will be great pick a piece you love because it marks a special occasion and your going to want to hang on to that piece at least until the divorce then you will want to dispose of it as quickly as possible

Really? I thought the chrono was pretty balanced when on bracelet. Loved the finishing & the way it hugs your wrist.

I'm not a fan of the SkyDweller in general, but as others have said I'd only consider it on a bracelet. It just doesn't look right on a strap of any kind

The AP however, is gorgeous and wins the day by a mile IMO

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding and if it were me, I'd wear your DD2

I would get something on bracelet so you have options of going from strap to bracelet.

You need this to match your current watch

I don't know if its just me but the sky-dweller being just now released in steel makes it less appealing to me in solid gold and makes me worried about the future value retention of the all gold model.

I just traded two DD II's for two Sky-Dwellers and could not be more pleased with my decision. I love the look of the DD in all sizes but the lack of adjustment in the bracelet was a deal killer in the long run. The Sky-Dweller is a great watch. The size, oyster bracelet with the easy link system and the complications make it one of the best for me. Properly sized the 42 mm watch is great to wear. I would buy the watch on the bracelet and then put it on the straps as you have shown in your pictures. I own YG with the silver roman dial and WG with the black dial. I go back and forth on which one I like the most. It is usually the one that gets the most wrist time.

I think that's a fair assumption. As with all PM pieces and their SS cousins, (Sub, GMT, Daytonas) they take more of a dollar hit.

Hey Bas, it is, I meant the AP is better balanced on strap than the SkyD on strap. The AP on bracelet is my first choice but thought the price might be too high for the OP's choices.

The choco dial SkyD on the strap is sporty, not dress. Great for yachting but it had better be your yacht.

Of all the photos you posted, the white dial SkyD in what looks like yellow gold on a croc strap is the most dressy. And I'll bet it would get the most wear long term.

Not a fan of the rose gold Royal Oak offshore. It's a lot of a lot.
