How long to clean your pen?

After using a pen for some time (years) I'm going to change the ink colour, at the same time I expect that my Montblanc Fountain Pen (149) needs a clean...

I'd been using Noodlers Blue/Black but it is no longer brought into the country and the story goes that there were quite a few complaints about that brand of ink.

So I've now got a bottle of Diamine "Denim" to give it a try for the first time

So after flushing out the pen how many hours or days would you recommend I leave the nib and half the barrel soaking in water to ensure all the ink residue has been flushed out and off all the surfaces of the barrel and nib?

Whenever I switch colours I tend to rinse the pen to get the worst of the ink off, soak it for a few hours (changing the water frequently) then rinse the pen until the water is clear after being held in the nib for a few seconds. I then blot dry on kitchen paper leaving the nib wrapped up in a few layers of it to draw the last of the moisture out. I will leave it like this for about an hour and then it's usually good to go.

I just finished, I gave it 5 hours.

When I finished I blotted all the water into a tissue until the nib was bone dry.

Brilliant! Let's see the outcome then... I'm a huge fan of Diamine ink so interested to meet a fellow enthusiast.

After flushing the pen, put it upright, nib down on a Kleenex and let it set for a couple of hours. The Kleenex will wick the water out of the nib and you will be good to go.

I want to see that ink as well. Always on the hunt for a new blue. Barbados Blue from MB is one of my favorites at the moment.

This works pretty good for me, too.
