BLNR Question

Probably a silly question but due to its high popularity, would it be unreasonable to ask for a discount on the BLNR at an AD when I get the call? I would assume that there would be no discount however just curious to what others have experienced.

You can always ask and why not, you have nothing to lose . Likewise AD can always refuse, and also has nothing to lose. I would certainly ask though

From my experience, discounts (atleast in the UK) are not generally awarded on SS pieces, and are even increasingly hard to come buy on pieces like the BLNR. They rarely see any shelf time and hence if someone wants a discount before purchasing the AD has a pretty good idea that some one down the line will pay msrp for the piece and it will be sold the same day. Its always best to ask though you would be more likely to get a discount on a TT or a full gold piece. Buy it with a discount or without, your money is secure with the BLNR. Wear it and enjoy it in good health.

If you don't ask, the answer is always "no".

I've always asked for a discount in everything I buy.

IMHO being on a waiting list and waiting "for the call" undermines your negotiating position as they know you are going to buy it anyway. If you do pass, there is another name after yours. I would not bother even asking for a discount for a waitlisted piece if it was me.

On my BLNR I got a nice discount of 8% and paid no tax when I bought from a AD out of state. I did do a wire xfer though.

There's always at least a little room for negotiation if you pay cash/transfer, because it costs the store 3.5%-ish just to take a credit card payment. I have the impression that GST is difficult to avoid in Australia, since the seller has already paid it on his end and essentially gets reimbursed by the buyer, but if there are "usual" ways to avoid it then you might try those as well.

Can't hurt!

When I got my BLNR, I asked if there was any freedom with the price, the saleswoman gave me a look that was jokingly disappointed, I chuckled and said "I had to try" as I handed over my credit card

Agree that I'd ask becaus why not! But I would expect the answer to be no on that one. I recently bought an 114060 and asked for discounts at two places and was told no, but I persisted and got a great deal from a third AD. I knew I could find that watch at a good price with a little patience and persistence. I don't know that I could for a BLNR though and would probably expect to pay full retail. While not that hard to come by here, I see them in some cases regularly, it's still in demand enough and not quite as ubiquitous on dealer shelves as the Sub so as to be difficult to convince them to offer you a deal.

thats why i can't do it. If i ask for a better price and they say no i have to be prepared to walk which i wouldn't be prepared to do most likely. There is no way i could ask for a discount, not get it, and still buy it at retail from the same salesperson. It would set a precedent for all future watch purchases with that AD that i can be denied a discount and will still buy anyway. In the UK at least its a non starter anyway for SS waitlisted pieces, so i'd rather just pay and not ask.

I disagree with Tyler. Give it a try. If they no, the next time you buy a watch, I'll bet you a dollar (even an Aussie dollar) that they won't remember what you paid the last time.

Walk in with cash instead of a credit card. ask for the 3% they pay on the transaction as the discount. Little help is better than no help at all.

don't ask, don't get.

Doesn't hurt to ask. I even asked for a discount when I got the call for the Daytona-C. You can guess what the answer was.

It's like the hottest girl in the bar coming up to you and asking you if you want to go home with her, and you reply "can you buy me a drink first?" Just buy the darn watch.

I agree that it never hurts to ask but do so knowing that the answer is all. It guaranteed.

On a side note. I seriously doubt the jeweler is paying 3% in credit card transaction fees. It's probably closer to 1-1.5%

I bought my 116520 when it was "waitlist only" and "super elusive" I not only asked for a discount I had them finance it. It did not disrupt the flow of business at all. We all left happy and I had my lemonade and my Daytona. Bumped up my credit for a quick payoff and I didn't feel guilty about buying my carpool buddy dinner that night. I wouldn't compare buying a watch to pursuing a woman.

I tried with my AD and got flat out denied, even when offering to pay with cash. That being said, paying with CC also gets you some points back as well as some measure of purchase protection if your card has it.

I was a repeat customer, asked whether the BLNR was in stock. The AD said he just got it in. I asked for a discount and was surprised when the AD offered 8% off if I took right there. I obliged happily, payed with my cc and got another 1.5% cash back. It never hurts to ask. Good luck and enjoy, I love the watch.
