Favorite Rolex Celebrity Inspiration

I looked to see if there was already another thread like this, but didn't find one. I have been a huge Eric Clapton fan for most of my life, and he is considered one of the world's most renowned watch collectors in addition to his musical talent and influence. Clearly, celebrities influence each other when it comes to style and watches, as much as they influence the rest of us. So I was wondering which celebrities have influenced your taste in watches, Rolex in particular.

My father has had the same Sea Dweller for 34 years. Growing up, it was his Rolex that sparked my interest in watches. And here we are...

With my tennis background, I'd have to say Roger Federer....sorry he's not as cool/retro as Newman/Clapton etc....but I think he's a pretty great guy all around.

Learning that John Mayer is as big of a watch guy as he is definitely boosted his level of "he's alllright-ness" with me.

Sticking to the classics, it would have to be "James Bond", Paul Newman, and Steve McQueen.

I think I would put McQueen at the top. Half because the Subs are my love and the other half because I laugh a little when someone mentions a "Steve McQueen Explorer".

I always roll my eyes when someone mentions a "Steve McQueen explorer"

Another one that comes to mind with the GMT's in particular is Clint Eastwood and his root beer.

...and Chuck Yeager.

No celebrity influences my collection, or style for that matter. Especially, not as an adult.

I do, however, appreciate and I am a fan of both John Mayer's and Eric Clapton's watch collections and music. It speaks more about their good taste in watches than anything.

Not much for being influenced by Celebs. But Bond, Arnie and Jack are Rolex wearers that I connect with. As a teenager my Dad's buddy wore a 16803 the original two tone blue Sub in the early 80's. Seeing that watch in the flesh was really the inspiration to want one.

I am not swayed by those who are paid to endorse stuff (Ambassadors). But having seen John Mayer's interview on Hodinkee and seeing him now play with Dead and Company, I have a lot more respect for him than I did just seeing tabloid headlines.

I like Roger Federer and think he's a classy guy. But like anyone who is paid to wear something, I take it with a grain of salt. I don't think Paul Newman was ever on Rolex's payroll, though. I think he just wore them because he liked them and Joanne got him one (or more). That's kinda cool.

Agree 100%. I've met a few celebrities and don't really have anything nice to say at all. Over the years, I've learned to do my own thing. Buy what I want. Wear what I want (including the speedo).

I guess I'm in this camp too. I suppose it doesn't hurt that some celebrities have good taste though

Another for none, I liked Rolex before I knew who wore them, although James Bond and Prince Harry are not bad people to share watch taste with.

Although I would say I used to love Audemars. Then a few months ago I saw a poster of Justin Bieber and a Royal Oak bracelet caught my eye...a little bit of my love for the brand died that day.
