Deep Blue

I love my D-Blue and it seems they are becoming quite hard to find as friends tell me they want one too. I bought a second while in Bucharest and planned to hold it for a while....

Do you think these will somehow become appreciable much beyond US Retail?

Thanks for sharing your opinions...

I don't think so as they are quite easy to find in the US and I can't see them being disco-ed any time soon. In UK before the sd43 came out dealers were paying 1K over retail as this is rare but now they pay about the same, so the hype is dying down.

Not as much as Daytona C, but probably the next in line

But would also depend on stock of the SD43, as buyers might look to that iconic anniversary watch rather than a DBlue, with the ease of wearing and more classic Rolex look

Yes, that makes perfect sense
I suppose we could add that to the list of why people will naturally defer to the SD43 as it pulls sales away from the DSSD range.
So far it seems as though the SD43 will be fairly readily available at the current rate people are able to pick one up.

They don't seem to be limiting supply any more than some of their other popular models and there are many people putting them in their safe. I don't see them going up in value any more than Rolex generally does.
The reason some models have went up a lot in the past is because most people wore the watches so there are fewer left in great condition. Rolex was also making less watches in the past.

personally i don't think they will long term

Part of the reason for the shortage of the d blue or daytona is due to the premium you can get for it on the grey market. More people than who would otherwise buy the model from an AD are buying them only to flip (or in your case buying additional ones to hold). Those who really want one but can't get from an AD are buying at a premium. So quite a bit of the AD demand is artificial demand. That isn't sustainable long term as there are only so many people who want the watch and who are also willing to pay a premium. Once that dies down the artificial AD demand will go down as well and sourcing at retail will be easier.

It is already dying down somewhat for the D blue and will subside eventually for the daytona.

Speculation and genuine appreciation are two different things.

I'm beginning to wonder that the D-Blue might be discontinued in the next year to 18 months because a lot of potential buyers in the market for a big diver will head to the SD43/50, whatever it's called.

Doesn't make any difference to my life. I have a D-Blue and have no interest in the SD43/50.

The 116600 was discontinued because it was felt that it needed a reboot. I don't think the same can be said for the D-Blue.

Yes, I would not be surprised now the SD43 is here, but in the UK and other places supply is already so low that there might not be much point stopping it as demand will still be in excess, plus Rolex seems to love having a few models where demand really outweighs supply, and I can't see them really limiting the SD43's production so this over-demand passes on to that model.
