Vostok automatic

I was thinking of picking up Vostok automatic, they're Russian made although I don't know very much about them. I was thinking of picking one up like to know your thoughts if anyone has any knowledge on these watches.

They're actually pretty interesting if you read up on them a little. They way they were designed and engineered is pretty impressive. (I'm vaguely recalling that the way they addressed the water resistance under pressure was pretty cool, but I'd have to go back and read again as my feeble mind has forgotten the details.)

I have an old Amphibia Captain. Somewhat humorously, I was inspired to get it after seeing it on Bill Murray's wrist in the [great] movie The Life Aquatic. I'll take a pic later if I remember.

As for reliability, mine has stopped running after about 8 years of use and I haven't had it serviced. The cost of a service may be more than the watch itself!

I have an Amphibia I bought maybe 5 years ago? I use it as my gym watch and it works fine and keeps excellent time still.

I really like Vostok and Poljot. Never had an issue with them.

Nice Komandirskie, Flavio! ^^

I had the exact same one many years ago and gave it to a friend. Wish I still had it. My friend used to joke that it felt like it was made of spare parts from a T-54 tank.

They're ok. In the old days, Soviet officers typically received these watches as presents when being promoted or due to some holidays. Designed as tool watches for the military-type excursions, these make great beaters, but those who are looking for decorated movements or Rolex-like accuracy will be disappointed.
