Here in the Chi they smash cars into high end storefronts late at night, grab stuff, and split. I get a kick out of these stories. It's a good shakeup of consumerist culture.

I feel for the vehicle owners as well why steal cars like that to use and then burn out why not an old car.. (not wishing anyone gets their car stolen just think it's wasteful..)?

Here in Holland and Germany they use those cars to be sure they get away before cops are notified. And they manage it everytime when they are doing a wall cashmachine heist.

In London they would still be sitting in traffic
We have a major problem with moped smash and grabs as they can disperse so easily amongst the traffic, even if they are pursued, we have to stop if they remove their crash helmets, due to risk vs reward. |

These types of crimes appear to be on the rise. I used to live in the Philadelphia area. The Tourneau at King of Prussia Mall got hit 2 or 3 times over the course of a few months. There was a string of similar crimes in CA not too long ago. I think they caught that bunch.
I don't think these stolen watches are being fenced for chump change so there must be a market for these watches or the crimes wouldn't be so prevalent. |

Me, too. I was having trouble wrapping my head around that figure and how such a thing could be possible.

It cost them $100,000 in stolen car assets to get $500,000 in stolen watches. Not really very efficient criminals.

They didn't purchase the vehicles, so, cost them nothing.

I know of a story a guy once stole an antique item we can't discuss here valued at £100,000, sawed part of it off to fit it in his jacket, and used it to rob a local store for £500 in cash, then discarded the antique.

We've even had bike crew thieves drive into malls and not only the ground floor.

Sad. Hope they were insured. And hope the thieves get long prison sentences.
But for Rolex it is like more free advertising as it highlights the desirability of the brand. |
