Collection Advice Needed [Urgent]
Hey Everyone
I say urgent, because I am on the brink of spending a lot and I just want to make sure I am getting it right. Ultimately I know I should be getting what sings to me and pulls my heartstrings, but there are a lot of serious collectors here on TRF with a lot more WIS-Y Wisdom than I have, so feedback is very much appreciate. I am curious what you would add or subtract for a modern luxury sports watch collection. Note: I am looking to keep my collection to 5-6 pieces max. Platona is off the board because too heavy for me. YG Sub and BLRO are fine, but as heavy as I want to go. Keep pieces ideally $40,000 or less for each one or close (trusted seller prices) PP, Rolex Only Now (All the AP ROOs I like are too big for my wrists and don't fit me right - otherwise count me in). Only sports watches, not dress. 5711 is about as dressy as I am going to go. Here is where I am looking to go SOON 5711 White (own) YG Sub - Blue dial (own) SD43 (own) BLRO (incoming Monday unless I flake out and get a 5164 ) RG Daytona on Oysterflex (just need to figure which metal/dial combo) Omega Speedy Pro or five digit Sub or Polar Exp for fun with straps. **116500 black (recently sold) What I like about this: 1) Nice balance of YG, RG and WG and SS 2) GMT, Chrono and Diver Covered (Rolex's Best Sport's References IMO - Submariner, DaytonaC, GMT Master II) 3) 5711 dress watch (plenty dressy for me). 4) Great diver(s) watch for the beach 5) Great watch for travel 6) Classic Chrono for racing.. My porsche has it's own chrono, but still the daytona is the classic racing watch. 7) One beater watch with bunches of strap options for fun with straps. 8) At least two sunburst dials (gotta have a sunburst dial IMO) 9) Full on White Gold and Full on Yellow Gold options for Stealth Wealth and Bling Bling moods |

Thanks, Oysterflex Daytona is currently THE most certain addition, because it is 100%. It is just a matter of which metal and which dial. 5164 is making a late run in my mind vs BLRO, though BLRO still tops by a good margin. |

15202OR AP Royal Oak in rose gold. Good compliment to your 5711 in steel, and it rivals the Rolex President bracelet for the best bracelet ever made!

Hi Bryant, given your collection, I would consider white gold submariner, a daytona but on a bracelet, instead of 5 digit references go for the LVc. Just my humble opinion.
You have an amazing collection. ooops just seen I have suggested the same as Pmt2 above. Last edited by harvey; 9 July 2017 at 05:44 AM.. Reason: ooops... |

To me you need this in any color dial.

Nice Choices, I had the Smurf for over a year and the Hulk also.
Loved them both. Hulk more likely to return. Quote:
Just couldn't find the price I was looking for and when I did with a preowned, it had too many scratches. Things just kinda fizzled, I am sure I could have found the right deal, but went other directions. YG Sub filled that void, but it is still a watch I absolutely love!!! Quote:
I have owned now 3 daytonas on bracelets and really want the Oysterlflex. But hard to argue with Daytona on a bracelet either. White gold Sub I already owned for over a year, but again, another great choice. Also owned the hulk for quite some time and very well may get it back again. I love the LVc Sunburst dial, one of the finest… I thought of a great sunburst line-up 5711 white/silver sunburst - 5164 grey sunburst - YG Sub Blue Sunburst - Hulk Green Sunburst - gold Daytona on Oysterflex (one of the sunburst options). This is not too far off the mark and its crossing my mind as sunburst dials are a weakness of mine. Very Nice!!!! I agree, still extremely likely Monday. Thanks I talked to david SW yesterday and he likes the YG Daytona on OF the best. Looking forward to seeing it in person. |

I like these choices, so just narrow it down after empirically seeing them on your wrist. I also think you should add a LVc later, I might do too.

^^Thanks Neil,
I am going to see David SW Monday for BLRO. He has YG and RG Daytonas on Oysterflex with Champagne and Rose sunburst dials. That will leave only the WG to hunt down. I am making sure to try them all before hastily pulling the trigger. Also, I have been thinking about getting the hulk back for a while now. So that could fill that 6th slot. I have been up and down the Rolex PP and AP lineups. Only other watch really that I am considering $30K or less is the 5164a. Otherwise I think I may finally be at a still point hopefully til next Basel. But I have to say it is a fun journey and I am already very much enjoying my recent acquisitions. |

Slight Update
This feels a little better with reacquiring the Hulk for the 6th Slot...
I really miss that SS Rolex more than any SS Rolex I have let go. |

Definitely thought about it. Kinda leaning 5164a if I go that route (which right now is unlikely for 2017).
I DID have a 5167r for a while and really liked it. The PP rose gold case is extremely photogenic. This was last summer... Darn you got me thinking again... But I am really sold on the Daytona RG on Rubber (or possibly WG or YG). |
