Thanks very much. It is a Ridgeway clock, made in the early '80s. It has three chimes - Westminster, Whittington and St. Michaels - and obviously a moon dial!

I love the burled wood and the old-world elegance it imparts. I do believe that a gold (champagne) face on a clock or watch is absolutely the "cat's meow"!

Very well. If it happens to lose or gain, there is a small adjustment knob at the bottom of the pendulum that can be turned clockwise or counter to get it back in line. I had to perform a couple of adjustments back in the early '80s, but have not had to do anything since then in the way of adjustment.

The only thing I dislike is going off of Daylight Savings Time (Falling back). I have to stop the pendulum, and then restart it an hour later. "Springing forward" is a piece of cake - just manually run the minute hand forward (pausing at the chimes at every quarter hour) an hour.

The clock is fabulous. One of the best purchases I have ever made - right up there with my Rolexes and the 300ZX I owned! Can't put it on my wrist, however!

BTW, it is an 8 day wind. I have a winding key (crank with a wooden handle) that is used to wind the three weights in the case, and that little task is performed every Saturday morning, like a sacred ritual. Very cool!!!

The other two types of clocks I would one day like to get ( The Grandfather clock doesn't count), is a nice mechanical fireplace clock and the "new" Panerai alarm clock.
I read on another site that there is a rumour going around, that luxury watch companies are putting a "crack like substance" on the back of the watches. Once you put one on your wrist, the addiction has begun.

LOL - they don't have to waste time and money on that technique with me. I'm hooked with just the unadulterated watch on my wrist. Hell, it doesn't even have to be ON my wrist. I can sit and stare at my three babies quietly turning on the watch winder and get seriously high!!!

Glad to hear that you will be inheriting a Grandfather clock one day. You will love it, especially if it still chimes.

We have a clock from Australia that dates from the 1800's at home (has a fusee chain movement ) but I am not really a "clock" person as much as I am a watch person.

One exception is that I really do want to get an Atmos at some point in time. Actually one of the best Atmos selections I've ever seen was at the famous Mansors in Auckland.......they had several different types there and you are usually lucky to see just one at any store in my part of the world.

Hey Al,

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I distinctly remember that you had visited the other smaller Rolex dealer in Auckland - About Time Ltd. - and not Mansor's. Had you paid Mansor's a visit too on Queen Street?

John, Mansor's is quite big and beautiful. At a very rough guess, I reckon you'd be looking at around 3~4,000 square feet of floor space. The main entrance is at the apex of a rough triangle. Of the two sides that flare out, one is at least 25 meters in length while the other is around 15 m. Then you go around the shop and there's much more length to the base of the rough triangle.

His display windows are superbly stocked and exquisitely displayed. Just walking past his windows and gazing into them is a treat in itself. I've seen big shops in Hong Kong too, but I can assure you that Mansor's is as adequately stocked and has an even better and more stunning display of all his watches than those of the HKG ones.
