Resale Value of a New SubC Date
Just bought a new SubC Date at retail ($8,550 USD) and trying to figure out how much of a hit I will take if I ultimately decide I don't like it. I think I can still return as I have not worn it yet, it but I'm having some trepidation because I've never owned a sport watch before. If I go to sell it in a few months, am I going to lose more than $1,000?

You should probably just return it now

To be fair, I looked at it a bunch of times over a few years before I pulled the trigger - and did research. But yes, I respect the sentiment.

Search on the reference number at watchrecon.com and have a look at the range of prices.

Sub is most popular and most fluid in sales...its good and bad..the 2nd hand value is fairly low due to this...
buying right with a bit of discount would help.. good luck in your decision... honestly, if you are not sure..I would return now within the return window

You can buy a brand new with box/papers 116610LN for $7500-$7600. This is the price from trusted sellers with VERY good reputations. A random individual such as yourself would get about 5%-10% less, so you can say about $7000. If it's used even just a week, drop another 5%-10% off your price.
So to answer your original question, I would say, with 100% certainty, you will lose more than $1000 if you resale. |

If you can return it, return it, but I don't really see how any AD will simply take back a watch after they put your name on the card and you've owned the watch for more than a few minutes.
If it's in brand new condition it will lighten the hit, but since you paid retail pricing you might be in for a shock. |

If you don't wear it and it stays bnib with the warranty only losing a couple months, I think you can sell it for around $7,000 since it's fully stickered and warranty is transferable.
I don't get it thoug, you researched etc and pulled the trigger. Why now the cold feet?

It's normal to feel a bit panicked right after buying a Rolex. Ride it out, and next week you'll feel great about your Sub.

It was on your wrist in the 'incoming' thread, so looks like you wore it unless that was just 'trying on' at the AD.
If you can't return it for a full refund, try to ride out the buyer's remorse. It's a nice watch, but selling immediately will lose you a lot of money. At least keep it for a year or so, and maybe a Rolex price rise will help ameliorate a flip/sale then.

I agree with those who said ride it out. First purchase is scary as it's a lot of money for some of us.
You will forget the price and enjoy the watch in time, that's my experience anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

RETURN THE WATCH ASAP! I almost feel like this is a troll thread...guy has been on the forum since May, already got gouged for a brand new Sub-C, and then comes on asking if he should keep a watch he's never even tried on?

This is a typical "buyers remorse" reaction for spending a uncomfortable amount of money they are not use to on a luxury watch. Pending on the OP's income should he relax and enjoy the watch since he never got a chance or return it if he can. The deciding factor is if loosing $1500 is signifigant to him. I think this is an income level and philosophy of life issue.

This isn't a troll thread. Bought another watch on this forum two months ago I'm very happy with. I did the deal I did because of a 0% deal. The vendor has already told me they will take it back. The photo was from the dealer - I haven't even opened the shipping box yet. Thank you all for the advice.

Just my .02 but financing luxury jewelry is never a good idea.
Good luck.

I think your problem was that you paid retail.

When you have your own business, sometimes preserving the use of your cash at 0% is. But I don't disagree with the overall sentiment.

Then sit back and think about why you had second thoughts and try to buy things you will enjoy without hesitation. I haven't had a minute of regret or second thought about the two Rolexes I have bought (30+ years apart), but everyone's different. If you're not comfortable with the decision, it isn't the right decision for you.

As to 0% financing, I did that with a GMT 16700 in the late '90s. Cost me about $100 a month for a little over 2 years ... BUT, it was the only way for me to get into a Rolex at the time, AND I was able to afford the monthly payments. Ultimately, I sold it for twice what I paid for it; that was then, this is now. As long as the financing is interest-free and one can afford the payments, then I see no problem with it. Now, as to the buyer's remorse, I find it odd ... I was thrilled when I got my first Rolex and couldn't stop looking at my wrist. If the OP doesn't feel similarly, then he should return the watch (if possible) and chalk this up to experience.

I felt exactly the same when I bought my Panerai. It was such a big financial commitment, I felt physically sick at times wondering if I'd done the right thing. Now, 8 months later I just love wearing the watch and don't give the price I paid too much thought. My advice would be as said above - bear with it, the Sub date is a fantastic piece and an all time classic. Regards. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
