Which First Rolex to Buy!?

So I'm new to the Dallas area, and I have my sights on either a Ceramic Sub (either date or no date), or a old style airking. So far, the prices I have found are:

Pre Owned from non-auth dealer:

$7,000 Ceramic Date
$6,500 No- Date Ceramic
$3,500 Airking

Since I am paying all cash, they are willing to waive the 8.25% tax

Alternatively, for new, a few dealers are willing to give a slight cash discount.

Do those used prices sound good to you guys, or should I pay the extra couple thousand and just buy new?

You can pay about $750 more and get a brand new one SubC date from a Trusted Seller on the forums with no sales tax.

My suggestion is to go to your local AD and try on the watches that are on your list. Hopefully one of them will sing to you.

My vote is for the 114060 (SubC). As someone else mentioned you can pay less than 1k more and get a new one from a trusted seller on here.

I would look here in the classifieds for a BNIB or LNIB sub and get pretty close to those prices.

I'd go with the 114060 Sub and I'd go new because those prices are awfully close to new anyway. Go with a trusted seller and get BNIB with your name on the card for a little more or even shop around some ADs for a good deal. I bought my 114060 brand new from an AD for not much more than you're talking there, and that was out the door after tax. ,a year harder to do one Dallas but trusted seller is always a solid option.

Yea, I did that yesterday, and I really love the SubC no date. The airking for $3500 seems like a steal though

Lots of money saved if you got the air king. However, I feel for a first Rolex, no date sub c... bam!!! :) you will really feel like you are wearing one of the best Rolex has to offer.

Thats what I'm leaning towards at this point. If the purchase options are $6500 used ceramic no tax, or $7500 new with tax, which would you go with. The used has been serviced by a watchmaker, and comes with papers and boxes.

Buy the ceramic ND Sub new from a local AD. In the long run you will be happiest.

$7500 is too high for a Sub no date. Those go for $6500-$6700 all day NIB on these forums and elsewhere. If you want to pay an $800-$1000 upcharge to go to an AD though, then yes, I guess you should go with that option. Why you wouldn't hit up Takuya for a face to face in Texas though, idk....

SubC no date. That said I'd contact takuya. He is right around your way.

Used ofcourse, just like buying your first car you eventually will want to upgrade. The less you pay the better, why take a hit. At the end of the day it’s the same watch that lasts a lifetime. Unless you are one of those guys who get all emotional about their first piece, if so, get new and keep it forever and ever and ever. Which ofcourse is also fine. But you can get used, save a little bit of money (like a smart buyer) and still keep it forever and ever :)

SubC date and I would look at DavidSW. Had a great experience buying my Milgauss as many others on this forum have.

Good advice! I just have to make sure when I go to look at it tomorrow that the used is in like new condition(i.e- band not showing wear, no scratches, exc).

The airking is a good deal, but I think I would regret not going for the sub.

Since you are from Dallas, head over to bachendorf's and see what they can do for you for a sub, never know might get a good deal.

As you said you might regret not getting the sub, then I'd go for that get the watch you have your heart set on.

Sorry, I read too quick. Explorer wasn't one of your choices.

Ceramic Submariner without date.

Good luck.

I went new for my first Rolex. Couldn't be happier with my watch. Plus, I know it is genuine and I have the full factory warranty. So what if I paid retail for my bluesy... I don't care.
