Invicta type of comment, but this time Fossil

So not only was it a Fossil comment, embarrassingly, I was the one who made the comment lol.

So a little disclaimer; I own a black bay and love it. It's one of my favorite watches, however, I don't know that much about Tudor especially compared to Rolex. And I've never paid close attention to the Heritage Chronograph, none the less even examined or held one in person.

So that said, I was talking to my neighbor tonight. I really don't know him all that will, but he's a real nice guy and we seem to be getting on ok. I notice he's wearing a nice looking watch, after a super quick look I realize (think) it's a Tudor Chronograph! I thought to myself, holy crap maybe my neighbor is a WIS!!! That's exciting!

So I say with a big smile...
"hey I love the watch! Tudor makes some amazing pieces. I have a black bay. It's one of my favorites"

Neighbor: Oh thanks, but sorry... what?

Me: Your watch! It's awesome, I love Tudor.

Neighbor: Tudor?

Me: Yeah you have a Tudor right?

Neighbor: Oh, hmmm yeah I think so, my wife bought it for me, hold on (as he takes a closer look) oh no it says 'Fossil'!

Me: Oh weird. hha ha ha (uncomfortable laugh).

Anyway, in retrospect and after telling you all the story, it's not that embarrassing as far as my neighbor is concerned. He probably already forgot about it (hopefully). But here at TRF it was a blasphemous act! Share my humility friends

At least you didn't call a Tudor a fossil.

That would probably have been much worse.

OP. This isn't your fault. I blame fossil for making such a watch!

That being said... when I was 17 and in high school my grandmother bought me a fossil chronograph that I wore for a couple of years. I still have the watch and will never get rid of it. It was 85 bucks at Macy's and the sentimental value is priceless. She passed away a few years ago.

It is definitely a fine looking watch. Sorry to hear about your grandma but I'm glad to your story about the watch she gave you.

Is it the same model as my neighbor (the one pictured above)?

OP.

It's not the same model... just a fossil. I tried several times to upload a picture of it but I keep getting a message that the demensions of the pic are too large.

Any suggestions fellow TRF members? I'm just using my iPhone to take the pic.

Also. This thread got me thinking of how we progress through brands. Swatch, Casio, Fossil, Diesel, Bulova, Tag, Rolex for me.

You could use the tapatalk app to upload your pics. I'm not a fan of using it to browse the forum but it's great for uploading photos relative to the abysmal web interface vB has.

Cannot see why as the only likeness with the Fossil over the Tudor is that the case is round like most all watches.

What's wrong with Fossil? they're trying to go Swiss but cheaper ones are still China... not interested enough to look closer.

Long as you don't call the WEARER a fossil...

Hell, I know guys who've owned Rolex watches who don't know the difference between a quartz watch and an automatic.

I can see where that mistake was made. Now the two of you have a semi funny story to tell, a bit differently, when the other isn't around.

Reminds me of something similar that happened to me when I was a kid. One of my classmates got a pair of shoes that looked just like new Air Jordan's so I complemented him on that but upon further inspection realized silently that they were knock off LA Gears.

As for my progression it was Swatch, Citizen, Tag, then Rolex.

Don't talk to strangers about watches.

They aren't WIS

They don't care about the watch other than it tells time or is expensive and that makes them better.

They have no idea what brand it is.

Waste of time really...if you want to chat about watches, come here...

It's an understandable mistake. It's easy to see the difference in still photos, but I find people are constantly moving their wrist excessively when I'm trying to make a watch ID.

Actually, you may have lucked out. Having a WIS as a neighbor sounds very dangerous to me.

The better approach is to simply compliment a person on the watch in question.

I've complimented people on their $10 Walmart specials, because the watch looks good to me.

What it costs or where it was bought is irrelevant.

Agreed.

Also, don't tell a pot bellied female bartender who just brought you your beer "BTW, congratulations... My wife and I are expecting too... How far along are you??"
