Rolex Cellini help

My son called me today to say when setting the time on his watch he has to turn the winding stem clockwise which turns the hands anti-clockwise and when he turns the stem anti-clockwise the hands do not move at all but the stem just keeps turning. He said he thinks the hands used to move both ways .
Is it normal for the hands to go backwards while turning the winder clockwise?

Also can anyone point me to where i can download a user guide for this watched, i have searched for an hour and can't find one.

His watch is the Cellini platinum 5241/6 as shown here. Thanks for any help.
