I started it and I ended it.

When I started the thread many years ago it WAS a picture thread. I enjoyed sharing pics of incomings, daily, etc. It was a fun thread and I think brought many into the brand. It became the most popular thread (by count) in the Non-Rolex forum over the years.

Lately it has become a pulpit for haters and it's getting old. I've helped countless people with RM, answered every question asked, reply to endless PM's, emails, texts, etc. Even had some ding dong post it's was not a pic thread...well yes it actually WAS. Hence the title of the thread...I should know.

When something isn't fun anymore, it's time to move on.

With that I asked the thread be closed. IG or other places seem to be better places that are less combative and where I'll post all of my RM pics moving forward. I'll leave it to the other experts here to answer and field questions regarding RM--I'm done.

Too bad a few ruin things everyone. Enjoy.

Name calling... classy. I actually thought my post was very thoughtful. I said that I enjoyed the thread (I even messaged a mod asking what happened to it). I acknowledged that the dissenter was going overboard, but that he should be ignored. I also said the thread has evolved into something more than a photo thread... unless you helped all those people with just photos? I would normally have ignored you, but not when you call me names. I guess I would rather be a ding dong than the kid who takes his ball home when his friends disagree with him.

Hi, why is this happening when I am about to order my first RM?

I enjoyed the thread and my RM knowledge has been built mainly on this thread.

I hope it will come back.

It's a real shame the RM thread got ixnayed (I'm not sure what really transpired), I really enjoyed it. I don't see why there couldn't have been some discussion mixed in, or a separate discussion thread for people who want to debate the merits of the brand. It does seem pretty childish though, to pack up and close the whole thing down for some negative comments/arguments (again, I didn't see what transpired, so I may be totally off base).

its a shame and i totally understand where Paul is coming from, i really do. Hijacking threads is frustrating, but it happens.

However we all know that threads here sometimes develop a life of their own and evolve in ways the OP's never intended. Sometimes they die out and sometimes they become something else. I do not agree that any OP "owns" their thread and should be able to control the fate of information published on a public forum.

Sometimes people stop contributing to a thread and thats ok, even if it is the person who started it, and then the thread moves on with different contributors.

thats my opinion anyway.

On a side note, i commend Paul for doing his best to keep it on track and trying to prevent it from being a "where to get the best discount" thread.

I'm confused though. Rule breaking leads to posts being removed or people being removed. That sorts its self out

This OP thread "ownership" thing i would really like to understand. OP's can close their own thread for any reason? OP's can dictate content?

Im not criticizing, I'm really trying to understand.

Wow did I miss something? Didn't see haters except on a few models, the "Mac Donalds" for example. Too bad, was cool to see the pics

OP does not 'own' a thread, nor can they dictate what content the forum displays.

I see no reason for this thread to be closed as long as unpleasant members do not partake.

Man!! Total bummer...I am sporatic about checking in, but I liked that thread a lot. And Texex91 helped me with RM questions which let to my first order that I anticipate will be to me in the next month or so...I hope we can bring back some form of the picture thread for RM products.

Also didn't know the thread disappeared. Really sad. I don't like RM watches, don't like how they look, the price is absurd and the company has no tradition whatsoever, but Paul's thread was responsible for a different view I have these days about the brand and I come back here everyday to improve my knowledge. I hope the thread comes back at some point.

I am more disappointed the entire thread disappeared - hundreds of drool-worthy pictures over time all disappeared because of some recent negativity? Why not just clean up the recent controversial posts and leave the good?

It's a real shame. I don't own any RM watches but I always like to browse the pics there and read the insightful discussion from time to time. I hope it can come back either as a closed thread for other to browse thru again as a useful reference or a re-opened thread for other members to contribute.

Granted in an internet forum, just like in the real world, there bound to be some annoying and rude people. It happened to me as well and at one time, I do not feel like posting to TRF anymore. But then, I realized most of the members here are friendly and it's just a few bad apples so I'm back. That's precisely what the IGNORE list is for.

Thanks Paul for appreciate all your hard work on the RM thread.

Who actually cares....if you want a RM thread start another "This is the official RM thread No 2" . Nobody cares who the OP is on the Nautilus thread, the 5131, the BLNR etc. If it's photo only stick it under the Photo Gallery subsection....

Someone should pick up the torch and move forward by creating a new RM thread.
