Symbiosis between 14060M and 16710
Hi friends,
I currently own a F series two liner Submariner 14060M and love it to bits together with its ratly bracelet (I think it's the bracelet that partly defines this model). This Sub is my first Rolex, a definite keeper for me. After being exposed to Rolex for about an year now, I am seriously considering adding a 16710 GMT Master II to my collection. First I was convincing myself that they are too similar and that I didn't like the cyclops window. I still do not like the cyclops but now I find it strangly in harmony with the rest of the 16710 elements. Who am I kidding, now the more I get to know the GMT master in details the more different I find it to the Sub. I am not a completely into Rolex (in fact when I started my 'journey' into watches few years ago they were never on my list due to many reasons) I amassed quite a collection, approx 20 watches among them a vintage Speedmaster, Panerai 000, IWC3717, 4 Sinns and some historically correct flieger watches (I am crazy about their design). I don't think that I will be a one or two or even a three watch guy. If I get the.16710 I will wear it rotation with many other watches including its sibling, the 14060M. Anyone here with both 5 digit Submariner and a GMT Master II, how they do co-live on your wrist? Do you have preference and why? Can they complement each other in a collection? I will be glad to hear your thoughts! Cheers ...and because the thread is empty w/o the pics ;) |

Beautiful looking 14060....yes they complement just fine. The 14060 is my arguably my favorite modern sub (only six digit I love is the lvc because of the green dial)....simple and understated and versatile as hell. Very comfortable and sleek also with the five digit dimensions. The GMT is my also a great watch with a very useful complication....keeping track of 3 time zones at once. If I were to keep one though, it'd be the GMT because I don't absolutely need 300m of water resistance.....but in terms of aesthetics, they play together very well in a collection.....you'd rotate both for sure.

I own both and enjoy wearing them equally. They're not competitors, they complement very well. I mostly wear the GMT II at work and the Sub at home on days off. I appreciate the clean look of the Sub (2-liner, no date) and also appreciate the date complication and 24-hour hand of the GMT II. Definitely two classics that have their own place in your collection !

I don't have a 14060, but I have 5513 vs 1675 which pretty much represent the same match up. Look at these 2 pics n tell me if they look "similar". 2 different beasts, in most regards. Gmt will always b thinner n sit flatter on the wrist which in some sense more comfortable. Personally a sub n a gmt pair is the perfect 2 watch combo.
I blame it on the autoconnect. |

Symbiosis between 14060M and 16710
I have both. I sold off a major chunk of my collection after I acquired my 16710 and I'm now down to a 14060m, the 16710, and a white roman 14000m.
Aside from the differences you listed, I noticed that the bezel of the 14060m is slightly smaller in thickness and diameter compared to the 16710. The diameter of the face is slightly smaller on the 14060m as well. These combine to make the 14060m look slightly smaller, and a bit more streamlined and understated. It's a subtle nuance that one could miss until you put the two side-to-side. The two watches also wear differently. The 14060m has a thicker caseback which makes it ride higher on the wrist compared to the 16710. Overall I'd say they're two very different watches. I'm completely infatuated with the 16710 at the moment and it hasn't left my wrist for the past month. Once my excitement fades a bit I can see myself wearing the 16710 as my daily watch and the 14060m as my weekend watch. For now, my lady wears the 14060m, which is great since I feel like I get to enjoy both watches. |

I have both and they go nicely together. I did opt to put a jubilee on the GMT2 to give them a bit more differentiation. Sometimes I do feel some redundancy but I haven't yet been able to part with one or the other.

I have over the years owned a few examples of the 16710 and despite trying very hard it is a watch that IMO looks better on other people rather than on me!! It is, however, a popular model (particularly ay the moment) so you should try one out and see what you think. Good luck.

Thanks all for the pictures and all the feedback from both watches owners - Enablers you are not!! ;)
It is a mighty versatile pair and I feel that I will be downsizing my collection when (yes, it is a matter of 'when' not 'if'!) I get the 16710. |

I own both and I don't know if you can rationalise it logically, but they are both works of craftsmanship and beauty.
Each have their own qualities and its a privilege to own just one, but two doubles the privilege.

@mineral: Fantastic pair! Love the lug hole cases on both, the faded insert into on the GMT Master and the jubilee on the 5513, it gives such a great old school vibe to that vintage piece. I've been seriously considering the 5513 before deciding on 14060.
@Lol-x, yes it is a privilege. Well said! Sent from my MI 5 using Tapatalk |

Have owned a Pepsi for over 20 years the only watch for me . Have owned a few other models including a new 14060 that I would wear in the house but I got bit by the bigger is better and flipped it to purchase a 114060 ,,,, BIG mistake!!! Sold it and lost my ass . Anyway if you were to ask me what the true Rolex tool watch I would pick the 14060 ! Simply perfect. Fast forward I wanted to change out my faded Pepsi insert but when I got to the AD I told him to toss in a black one . I really really like it I think it just looks classy not a sub just totally different ?? Go figure,,,,? I don't have any plans to change it back but still love a Pepsi .

Now I know why the prices for 16710 have risen quite a lot recently. It's because u hoard them. That's why. I blame it on the autoconnect. |

I’ve owned a 14060 for a few years now and recently acquired a 16710 about a week ago. Both A-serial swiss-only dials
Because the 16710 hasn’t had the same amount of wrist time, I’m not really able to speak to how they co-live on the wrist. Although in the short time I’ve had the 16710, I have found it to be just as comfortable to wear as the 14060. Similar to what another user said, I too mostly wear the GMT at work and the Sub at home. I tend to reference the date quite a bit during the workday, so the GMT comes in handy. I haven’t yet worn the 16710 out during the evenings to compare it to the 14060. I will say, in the right dimly lit conditions – and perhaps others can attest to this – the 14060 is a great evening watch. The combination of glossy black bezel, non-cyclops and classic simplicity of the two-line dial is absolutely mesmerizing. When you can wear a watch for two years and still be captivated by its look, that’s saying something. The 16710 will probably be the watch I wear during my upcoming wedding but I think both watches will live in my collection for a while. Ps. Some great looking watches in this thread! |
