Incoming - Nord Zeitmaschine Quickindicator V3

So I came across the watches made by Daniel Nebel a few months back - The Variocurve, the Freesdial and the Quickindicator.

Daniel runs a one man company called Nord Zeitmaschine - designing, manufacturing, polishing, assembling all his watches single handedly in his workshop in Buesserach, Switzerland - making about 30-40 watches annually. His watches specialize non-circular displays of time - using a single hand.

On my recent business trip to Switzerland I managed to acquire a Nord Zeitmaschine Quickindicator watch. The Quickindicator is said to have the fastest minute hand of all watches - traveling about thrice as fast as regular watches.

This Youtube video shows the watch in operation at Baselworld and a short chat with Daniel

Some pics for you to enjoy

What was the hesitation for?

I was more attracted to Urwerk 105 or 210 or an HM5, but didn't get any of those as independent, finally went for a Voutilainen unique piece, there is a thread about it, very classical watch but kind of funky and totally unique, but I might get one of the previous ones some day

Congratulations. I admire the work that Nebel does.

Definitively an interesting and well executed "complication". My only gripe with this watch is that the dial could be a bit more legible. I am not sure what/how I would change it but I would try to make the hour disk pop more as well as the minute markers. Perhaps in real life it works better than in photos.

Of course, the Voutilainen!!
Being able to commission a piece unique! Whoa! That itself should be worth a lot!
Congrats on the Voutilainen!

Of course, this Nord Zeitmaschine with a retail of USD 14,000 odd doesn’t compare to the Kari or even the Urwerk, but is definitely a striking piece handcrafted fully by an independent watchmaker.

Absolutely agree!
Legibility is not great even in indoor restaurant settings.
And trying to have a quick glance at your watch to tell time is not possible - you have to take that extra 1-2 seconds to tell the time.

But then I feel that’s the whole point for me. Makes me stare at the dial for 1-2 seconds to tell the time, which makes me admire the layered dial and a nano-break from the real world.

This is one amongst the 8-10 watches that I wear in rotation (traded up my Panerai Radiomir for the Zeitmaschine) and it is a welcome break from “regular dials and hands”

Thanks, and yes commissioning a unique piece, choosing the dial colors, numerals, engine turned outer dial, movement coating, ruthenium on mine, and a made to order unique engraving on the officers case, from what I wanted, in contact with the engraver, choosing all the details, is an awesome experience, it makes a huge difference than if I had bought that watch like it is but had not designed it from the start.

In any case you have a superb collection and I totally understand the appeal of this timepiece.
