Thought I bought a DJ41, but it's really a DJII!

I got over 20 percent off retail on a watch I thought was a DJ41, but it's really a DJII. And you know what? I actually prefer the wider markers and larger bezel. Plus, it's a true 41mm. This actually worked out just fine.

Congratulations

Kind of weird though ...

Was it advertised incorrectly? Where did you buy it? I hope you didn't pay a DJ41 price

As above - was it advertised as a DJ41 or DJII?

I hope it wasn’t an AD/seller playing the name game and using the discount as a distraction to deflect the actual questions.

Buyer: Is this the new DJ41?
Seller: Yes, it’s brand new, 41mm.

My photobucket account won't allow me to send photos. If someone IMs me their email address, I'll send it and they can post.

I paid $5,720 out the door.

As long as the AD didn't trick you so they could get rid of that DJ2 sitting around.

Congrats!

Not a bad outcome. Presume you discovered it was a DJII in the course of purchase, not after you got it home.
My AD offered me a DJII, fluted bezel for slightly less than a new DJ41 smooth bezel. It's tempting.

Rolex really should not have called the new Datejust the DJ41 as it is only about 39.5 mm. It really is a misnomer.

I discovered the error a couple days after I brought it home. Honest mistake by the AD and myself. Like I said earlier, it worked out just fine and I got a great deal on a fantastic watch.

As long as you are happy, that's all that matters.

That being said, I would definitely reach out to the AD if you went in asking for a DJ41.

Them giving you the wrong model is not acceptable.

Glad you like it but the DJ41 is the way to go. Completely upgraded movement and bracelet with much better over all balance. If it was a mutual mistake, frankly, I would take it back. When it comes time to flip you will be glad you did.

It's pretty much my fault. I said I was interested in the DJ41 and asked what model number it was. The AD said a 116300 silver stick dial. I never checked the model number in comparison to the new DJ41 model number. I'm embarrassed by the mistake, but not too bad. I still got a great deal on a watch I really like.

I think you should tell the dealer and ask for more discount or other compensations.

Lol. I promise you it was no mistake by the AD, honest or otherwise. They absolutely knew which model you were buying.

I don't know how this is your fault. You asked for a DJ41. Dealer gave you a DJII. It is not your job to check the model number. Not every customer are watch expert. Will you be happy if you want to buy a 2018 car and the dealer mistakenly give you a 2016 model?

You got a great watch, at a nice price. You've already stated to be happy about the purchase, even after discovering the mishap. I honestly can't understand why anyone would insist on taking matters any further.

Enjoy that great watch!

Good thing OP is happy about the watch. What if he wasn't happy?
It doesn't hurt to let the AD know they made a mistake. What if OP can get a little more discount? It is a 3 minutes phone call.

No doubt about that, they knew exactly what they were doing. They were anxious to move the DJ IIs now that DY 41s are out. To allow a buyer find out afterwards is really incredible.

I'm curious. Is $5,720 not a good price for a brand new DJII?

Price could be better but as long as you're happy with the watch. Do yourself a favor and forget this thread exists if you want to continue to be happy.

It probably is. But still, if they sold you the wrong watch, I think you should let them know, even if you don't want anything else from them. All it takes is a couple minutes to call them. You might get a few hundred dollars off, you never know. I think most dealers would rather do that than take back a used watch.

EDIT: Nevermind. Just do what makes you happy.
