Need help with choosing, Thank You :)
Hi all, I hope this post finds you well.
I am currently mulling over which Rolex to purchase next and I was hoping for some advice from the wonderful members here on the Rolex Forums. I have only had sporty watches and I want something classic, on the smaller side, dressy, and a very good investment. I have always wanted a DateJust but I don't want one that is oversaturated. I shop with my heart, and if a particular configuration swoons me, I can't get my mind off of it. Here are my choices. 1. DateJust 31 Steel and Everose Gold w/ Black Dial set with diamonds. On Jubilee Bracelet Ref: 178271 2. DateJust 31 Steel and Yellow Gold w/ Black Dial and fluted bezel w/ 12 diamonds on Jubilee Bracelet Ref: 178313 3. (I know I said on the smaller side ) DateJust 36 Steel and Everose Gold w/ Black Dial and Fluted Bezel on Jubilee Bracelet Ref: 116231 4. For some reason, the AP Royal Oak in stainless has gotten under my skin too (37mm). I think it has to do with my love of more sporty watches. Do you think the DateJust is a better investment/purchase over the long term than the AP? I know, a motley crew, but I can't shake these particular configurations. Which one would you choose? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance :) Have a wonderful day

I might be wrong, but I’d expect the AP to hold its money better than any dj over time. I wouldn’t buy a watch as an investment personally, but of those I’d go AP personally.

Datejusts don't seem to be as good as an investment if your looking at it that way as a Rolex sports model as I'm sure you're aware.
Personally I think the 36mm DateJust would be perfect. I've had one for 3 years and it's a beautiful piece. The Jubilee & fluted bezel combo is just stunning. |

A DJ31 will look very effeminate on a man's wrist. Great size for a woman, though.

36mm or AP. Try them both on before deciding.

1. AP
2. Rolex DJ 31 mm (if you are not one of those who jumped on the bandwagon of oversized watches - you will look different with the "normal" size...) |

"very good investment"?
none that you mentioned will be a good investment. in fact, they will all be bad investments....though you can limit the loss if you buy used. anyway, of the ones you mentioned, i'd take the 37mm AP in a heartbeat. i prefer the jubilee in SS. |

I would find a slightly owned DJ 36 that is complete with the box, papers and still under warranty. It will have taken most of the hit from new and is a classic, iconic watch.

I would say go for the one that you have an itch for that you find yourself really leaning towards. Don't get the one that other people want, unless that is the only way you are able to satisfy your cravings. I say this because if you are eying a certain model more than the others, and you end up getting one other than that model, you might find yourself full of regrets.
As far as investments, I dont think watches are very good investments at all. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe two tones are the worst at holding value, followed by full PM. Either way, to answer your question, I am a fan of Rolex's rose gold over their yellow gold, but I am team AP above that. Happy hunting! |

Welcome aboard Richard. I'd focus on which one you really want vs what might be the better investment.
That said, I much prefer SS DJ's to two tone, but I understand that's personal preference. |

Did you see AP WG in Frosted finish? If you have time to spend on this hobby I’d try to find one around where you live and go to see it in person before you decide.

I would not advise wearing a 31mm on a mans wrist. You are asking for trouble right there.
